terrierguy 1
Hey Guys and Gals, I have just recently lost my regularly ratting permission on a local farm due to new ownership and was wondering if any body out there knows of any decent places around the durham area to go ratting with my two terriers, Ive tried all the usual avenues of knockin round doors but to no avail, I didnt realise how hard it was to get new permission to hunt a few rats!! Keeps 403
You'll be lucky to get permission in that area terrierguy, I've tried myself many times, spent hours travelling round. You may have better luck if you are prepared to travel further afield. Quote Link to post
Guest joe ox
Get yourself round the pig farms you MIGHT get lucky. Quote Link to post
pointer 543
ive asked on every pigfarm ive heard of in durham.they either dont let anyone on or poison heavily. like keeps i have to travel to get rats and rabbits. i went to three farms last night that a mate has permission on and didnt see a rat.these days it seems like you need to know keepers to get into the pens after the shooting season.even then thats seasonal so it dosent really help anyone who wants to go ratting several times a week all year with terriers. good luck anyway mate,if you find a place and you need a hand i have an underworked terrier that would appreciate a look out. terrierguy 1
Cheers people, Still no luck, I must have tried at least 50 farms/ piggerys in the area. I'll keep on trying tho, the terriers are going crazy for some work!! How far do you think I am gonna have to travel before I actually get some permission? Quote Link to post
pointer 543
i dont know mate, there will be plenty of places in durham with a rat problem but its finding them.then theres the issue of weather a farmer wants a total stranger on his land. its not easy but good luck. have you tried allotments, myself and reed off here have had a few mornings digging rats out of manure heaps in the past. terrierguy 1
Might give the allotments a go Pointer, just didnt think that they would hold enough rats to warrant giving them a go. But I suppose it wil be better than nothing which is what I've got at the mo! Quote Link to post
pointer 543
allotments wont give you regular sport mate but ive had a few good sessions on them.its better than nothing. everything is worth a try. Quote Link to post

terrierguy 1
Did you try the pig farm at blackhouse near edmondsley/ch-le-st? Manda, Manda, Must have tried every place within a 20 mile radius of fencehouses, spent 2 full days last week driving round, managed to get a new permission to do some ferreting on a small farm so not all bad but it's the ratting I was mainly after for the terriers, I won't give up however, like somepeople have already said I am probablys gonna have to go further afield. Cheers Macca Quote Link to post
