there is huge posible variation in and cross bred even in pedigree dogs. remeber genetics dont work based on fractions its much more complex. there are heavy type draw dogs and light racy bull crosses all out of the same litter variation between sex and then when you go ans cross agian it craets an even greter spectrum fo variation. it like saying all irish a stupid drunks or all welsh are fond of shagging sheep whilst in alot of cases its true it is not the case for all. :11: :11: :11: :11:

Well thats dissprooved that all Bullxs are great lumbering beast(to be honest mine isnt the fastest :D ).It was the bit about them all being totaly untrustworthy with other dogs and just waiting for the chance to destroy their owners and families that got me smiling most.

All dogs should be treated with the respect they deserve any dog can be aggro Ive found the majority of Bullxs(not all) to be easily kenneled and a joy to own.

If I didnt have terriers I would probably have racier type lurchers.Horses for courses.

my personal preference is the Lurcher every time.

I know Bull cross lads swear by them ,but they are heavy and slow as you clearly illustrated.

Bedlingtons are not geniuses but at least they are not unstable mad dogs so dangerous they had to be band.

Not to mention if some body points out to the authorities you have a bull cross they will put your dog down just for being a bull cross.

That is if you are a genuine dog lover.

personally I think Bull blood is total over kill for most hunting I know they can ,but any cross of a decent size can kill a little scrawny fox if brought on the right way ,admittedly some will never take to it.

My self I know fox taste shit and prefer to eat rabbit and wood pigeon.

Please tell me this is a wind up? Bull's were banned because the goverment panicked and brought in a totally unjust and rushed piece of legislation, to call bull x's mad and unstable shows what little contact you have had with the breed.

I am looking at getting a bull x, how reliable do you think the really high drive ones would be with the kids and other pets if it was going to be kept in the house.

Do any of you who have got good ones keep them just around the house.

The story of the bull x which kept raging on the fox, says as much about the handler as it does the dog.

BLACKBOB, nice looking Bedlington x, the bull x

does not look lean enough to be at his fighting weight. :good:

A friend of mine has a Bedlington x, and he's always complaining it's not fast enough, I think it's got to come down to the individual dog and what you do with it.

Believe it or not mate, some people actually keep pure bulls around kids :o:o:o:o:o:o:o :11:

Treat every dog the same....never trust them around kids 100%.....as good as they are, you don't want to be proved wrong. Bull crosses as a type are as good as any other type. Bulls have been bred to be people friendly for an awful long time.

It always amuses me how sensitive and over protective and blinkered people can get over a simple comment and read in to it what they want to see. :haha:

I didn't say a bull cross was not a lurcher nor at any time did I say bull crosses were no good I said my personal preference was for what Blackbob described as a lurcher.

On the aggression point Pit bull are meant to be mad if they are not they are a pussy and are no use for what they were meant for that is to kill other dogs.

I know two lads who have Pit bulls one of which uses it for what it is meant for and they are just about the most unstable maddest dogs I have ever seen.

And the few first cross pit X greyhounds I have seen have all been ok at bunny catching but nothing special, and all have been heavy built heavy boned dogs ideal for big stuff.

And before you start showing your skinny anorexic bull cross pictures I am only commenting on the ones I have seen run or at the occasional game fair. I know that doesn't mean they are all heavy.Even though there are lots of pictures of first crosses on this sight none of which has looked any different to the ones I have seen in person.

Obviously using pit blood will make a lurcher that will crunch fox and deer all day but most people don't go after deer or even have any with in miles of them .

Most people are only really interested in rabbits and the odd anything else that pops up like hare or the odd fox or deer.

As for the comment banning pit bulls for being dangerous ,blaming the government for a knee jerk reaction,it is true they do ban things at the drop of a hat for no reason but in this case the facts were and still are because the ban did cock all, pricks still walk around council estates setting their pits and other similar dogs on people ,every dealer for miles round my house has a pit or something like a bull mastiff and they don't hesitate to use them and that includes our friends from the Indian sub continent who never used to keep dogs but now every gangster rapper one a be has one.And the potential for harm is there and with more ability to harm than from most other dogs.

I will write this a bit slower for the hard of thinking this does not mean every pit bull is mad or a psychopath or that every first cross is mad cart horse but the potential is there.

If you are happy with your dog no matter what cross it is who cares what anybody else thinks.

The best lurchers I have seen have all been Lurcher cross Lurcher with pedigree hardly known ,but they have been virtually impossible to reproduce due to the vagaries of genetics.

Now I hope I have clarified that I have nothing against any cross but mearly have my personal prefrences like every body else and in my mind ,good reasons for my prefrences as they serve me best and have done the last 30 odd years of hunting.

Now before any body starts to show me pictures of 40 inch Bedlington crosses.

Blackbob you said

As they are both young dogs Beddy x 11mths and 27", Bull x 18mts and 25"

my question is,is the Beddy cross a second cross I have never heard of a first cross so big or do you have a stretchy tape measure. :D

Both are nice looking dogs and shouldn't have any problems on anything if entered right by the look of them. :good:
