ratchermans first trip with the wires

Well to day was RATCHERMANS first trip out with the wires i made up some snares only two days ago new brass and still shiney i wanted to show that new snares would catch rabbits RATCHERMAN had his doubts untill he saw with his own eyes after 2 hours they were catching rabbits here are a few pictures from today

i found this deer carcase hanging on the fence its foot had become trapped in the mesh and it must have died a slow death

his first rabbit he was well pleased as you can tell

and it was neck snared

a peg snare caught this one

we have a few hoops to check tomorrow

few others we picked out of the snares before we left

those new snares caught well

darkness was creeping in when we called it a day

RATCHERMAN carrying a few back to the motor

33 rabbits today out of the wires and they are still down ready for tomorrow

not bad for shiney new brass snares

so much for all the bull sh#t about flinging rabbit wires into a dung heap for two weeks to dull them and all the other old crap . bet woodga will make you skin them gary, and you will be carrying all the others tomorrow morning as well. ha ha.

nice one where do you get snares from i have a few shop brought ones and i never catch as maney as that i only ever get a few a night mabey 3 out of 20 and most ar nocks or just untouched mabey im setting them wrong ?

thats how you are hardly catching any, because you are using shop bought snares , how many times have people been told on this site that these type of snares are pure shite, thats why woodga is getting big catches because he is using his own professionally made snares ,

Snareman, you have to remember, that the young lads today have their ears painted on, and their head zips up the back . You have to paste links onto everything for them. take care mate, ian.

woodga, if i wanted to set snares on sheep like you have done, but cant cut the wire where would you set the snare...?

you can still set on the square try opening the mesh with your foot you can set over the square half the loop above the top wire this will work but not as effective in my opinion

thanks, will bare that in mind, a piece of land i have been ferreting has just installed "deer fencing" and i may try snaring the rabbits, but can't be cutting holes in his new fence!

Cheers colin for the snaring experience and it was an experience aswell i have sat and watched you spinning the wires and youve told me about how effective they are but you dont believe it untill you see it for yourself if thats what we can catch in the snow i cant wait for the summer looking forward to the next trip oot so get spinning them wires and ill put the kettle on

gary, ive spun up 50 wires for you 22 1/2 inches long they will be posted down to woodga,s address tomorrow for you along with the little tripod for your camera, you deserve a little something for all your work son, snaring , skinning , and mincing. mind and put your new apron on that geordie sent you .
