bow

ok i decided to make a model of what i thought was the corect shape bow i wanted,ie 24"/25" long and 10"/11" high, these the sizes in one of the books i have here.the idea being it was better than a bit of scrible on a fag pack to give to some one to make for me.

after thinking about it for a bit,i thought i could weigh some lead, compo, resin, whatever and fill the one i made to the weight i need.see pic

i know the tethering ring may be a bit on the small side, but its all i had to hand and was only a model.can eaisly change that.

the string you see is just to help the plastic get some memory, when i remove the timber you can see, and fill with say lead to get the weight and resin at the ends i can shamfer the ends in case leash could snag on it.the bow part i think will have to be filled with resin to help keep the shape, although the plastic is very tough and keeps its shape as it is.also need to add leather for perching aera.

ps i am not trying to re invent the wheel or anything so feel free to say what you think.thanks daz.

TAKE THE BLUE STRING OFF AND USE ANOTHER PIECE OF THAT YELLOW STUFF STRAIGHT ACROSS THE MIDDLE. GOOD IDEA THOUGH IT'LL BE EASY TO CLEAN.

thanks, the string is only there to help the plastic get some memory,so when i remove it it will stay that shape.that way when i fill the bow part with resin for example the plastic wont try to bend back, hope ive explained that ok.will fill the bottom with compo or something heavy.

thanks for your imput

cost me nothing mate bar half hour of my time with my youngest who loves making stuff,so two birds with one stone,no pun intended,i wouldnt sell them mate, however once i was 110%happy that it was up to the job, with the larger ring etc i would be more than happy to give someone with your experience one (a bow that is) to do with as you wish.then i would know if it was up to the job.

thanks daz

D.A.Z great stuff mate have you got spikes or something on the bottom of the bow ?

The reason I ask is Im not knocking your workmanship, you have done a good job dont get me wrong but I have made a few bows like these and the problem I have found is no matter how much weight I have put in the tubes the bird always ends up dragging it around the garden, all I done is got some 10mm bar and cut it in to 3"-4"lenths and welded 1 to each end of the tube so it digs into the ground.

GREAT JOB

the problem here is this will defeat of the object of having a Indoor Bow by adding perminant spikes :hmm:. I had this in the past with bows and used long tent pegs or caravan awning pegs to pin the bow down.

The other option DAZ seeing that this is composite piping is you could drill the end of each foot to allow you to push a spike through incase you need it, I think I mentioned to you about a real old Bow I have here with flat plates for feet! I just blasted a good drill bit throgh the feet to allow me to pin it...

what sort of weight do you think it sould be roughly mate,i got lead coming out my ears, but i got some realy dence stuff that came out of someones sash windows :whistling: anyway thought if i slide that in the base,so it has a heavy low centre of gravity and keep the bow part light, this would help.at this rate it wont be portable as i wont be able to lift it. will have a look at it later, thanks daz

I made 1 with flat steel before instead of tube all I done is drilled 1 hole in each corner tap & dyed it and done the same with the 3" spikes so if I brought it in the house I could just unscrew them
