Rabbithunter 456
if you get a stronger twine/heavier , then yes spun polyester has been around for as long as i can remember, and it is sold everywhere you look, most places call it spun nylon, although it is spun polyester..... like flax is sold as hemp Edited March 21, 2008 by Rabbithunter Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
i think size 20/24 spun polyester or 20/36 is definatly strong enough.... i havent looked on your link Quote Link to post

Double snap !! I bought some from Engel Netze in Germany - I don't know the rating but it's 1.2mm diameter. I got it in brown and green and a fully loaded 8" needle gives almost exactly a yard of net, 12 meshes deep and 2 1/4" knot to knot. By alternating the colours, I can easily count the length of the net that I have completed without resorting to a tape measure. I planned to knit a 100 yards of netting (to give me a 50 yard net) and after 40 yards I am beginning to slow down a bit, but I am determined to complete the job eventually and then add a double selvedge to the top and the bottom, so the overall depth will be 14 meshes. It will be set up as a 'quick set' in a basket I bought from Brian Brinded, and should be ready for next Winter at the rate I'm going. I've made plenty of hemp purse nets in the past but this is my first attempt at a long net. I have to say that I have found the material to be excellent - it's light and hold the knots well but it is bloody hard on the finger tips. I'm sure that it would be much cheaper to use sheet netting, and I'm not about to claim that this net will work any better that a shop-bought one but half the pleasure for me is making the stuff myself and using it successfully in anger. ]Watch this space !!!
