spudlington 3 Posted March 22, 2008 Report Share Posted March 22, 2008 The government here brought in a 25cent levy per plastic bag a few years ago, think it is actually a bit more now. As Ditch says there are still plenty of scruffy b#stards throwing other stuff around but it is very noticeable how much fewer plastic bags there are around. You get so used to using re-usable cotton bags that when abroad it seems an outrage to have plastic bags just freely available at the tills! I think it really has worked well. FJager 0 Posted March 22, 2008 Report Share Posted March 22, 2008 On the packaging issue, I heard a news item the other day regarding modern day society being obssessed with buying bottled drinking water. It was saying that when you take into account the fossil fuels being consumed in the plastic bottle making processes, the transportation all over the world and then disposing of the bottles the damage to the environment is massive..........food for thought.
