FJager 0
RS, they do state on Bears show that he is instructed in each area by a survival specialist for that area, all the same I always did think those horses were a bit tame. Incidentally I was browsing through a Ray Mears book recently and he stated his absolute abhorence to the killing of badgers.

He (RM) doesn't, but he has taught as a civilian many military units including UKSF. Bear Grylls on the other hand served for 2 years with either 23 SAS and also with R Squadron. Barbus 0
23 SAS ......signals.....TA???
chartpolski 23,913
Bear Grylls didn't pass/finish selection in 23 (TA) SAS; so has no claim to have been a member of The Special Air Service. His credibility was destroyed when he was supposed to be living on a desert island, and was actually going to a five star hotel every night, after filming !! He also pissed of a lot of real adventurers when he claimed to have flown a microlight aircraft over Mount Everest; he may have flown a microlight to THE HEIGHT of Everest, but he was in Africa, not the Himalayas, at the time !!! Cheers.
The Sporting Agent 0
23 SAS ......signals.....TA??? As I understand he served on a full time basis (which can be done in both 21 and 23 SAS) as well as with R Det/Sqn. Either way, if he was badged, he passed selection.... Barbus 0
Yep I agree,if he's hes done that then he was badged ..........but the other reports kind of sour things for me a bit.

Can't comment on his passing selection or not but I believe a picture of him has been published in uniform, badged with UKSF HALO wings on his uniform...... He was also a member prior to the tightening of the OSA restrictions. I too read and saw the reports about him staying in the hotel during filming on a dessert island; I think he made a public appology about that and that a note has been added to his programme stating that the show is not a factual documentary but a "how to", or whatever, anyway, a get out clause. His balloon effort over Everest was not done directly above Everest because the Chinese Government refused him a flight permit but it was done in the Himalayas. At the time no mention was of it being made AT Everest, just that it was in the region and going to be up to and possibly above the hight of Everest. Still a very very good accomplishment.
