whin 463
i checked out your web etc and well im not realy a computer man , what of killing and catching roos is it ilegal or legal now with dogs etc and how does the law fair as to me a roos a big fech off rabbit thats needs controling and well if you get sport out of him and food great Quote Link to post
DiStuRBeD 0
its illegal, roos are a protected species but you can shoot them, but you have to go through government departments to get tags etc to cull on a landholders property roos can be in plague proportions, and when it was legal dogs were one method used to great effect. in fact there is documented evidence that in tasmania ppl were more busy hunting with roo dogs then farming land haha they can put up quite a fight but, from what old timers have told me anyway, not overly good at turning but they can be quite fast, i guess similar to a deer although the kicks from a roo can disembowel a dog(hence the x'ing of deerhound with the greyhound) of course we being law abiding citizens dont hunt them anymore should be some pics of my kangaroo dog on here, if you do a search... you will see he has a little saluki blood in him by his colour Quote Link to post

halfmoongh 0
Careful what you say! The dog in the pic carrying the jack is a showdog He's got both of his AKC majors and is well on his way to his UKC Ch. He's wowed more than a few folks out here coursing. So have his housemates and his relations that have been out coursing. He has several that have OFC titles from WY on whitetails, as well show titles in AKC, UKC, CKC. Some are even Best in Show and Best in Specialty Show winners. The greyhounds running in New Mexico are also showdogs and some of them are also Open Field titled. There are some in California that are also showdogs. Same with salukis, several of them are also bench champions as well as Open Field titled. I've run my greyhounds against all comers and sometimes mine win and sometimes the other guy's win. It's often the luck of the rabbit. And in my world it isn't all about killing, it's all about how the dog runs the jack, the killing is just icing on the cake. Whitetail jackrabbits are one of, if not the toughest, jackrabbit to course in North America. They are reported by some sources to be faster than a blacktail. Kills in this state are often far and few between, unlike what you'll see and hear about in other states. Ask Dutch about whitetails, he judged a hunt up here several years ago. So there are greyhounds out there that are not only health tested but have proven themselves, if someone keeps an open mind. yep best to best no show ring shite just good ole boys working dogs for jacks and them ole coyotes , but yes these cunnigham greyhound types ,well they can run for three to four mins at a high speed chase they would be ideal; for three out of three on the larger feilds or small feilds , only saw ahandfull or maybe two dogs over here who can run for four minsor three at ahigh pace and be good mouthed with good feet etc , they look like a strong deep chested greyhound but dtrong feet and deep chested got pics of them great typeof running dog my mates got two of them and he es going tofind it hard to get a dog in the same class to mate withthemas they are both females and they are pretty rare now he maybe fancy a tazi cross or a good galgos all the best but not many thta are real hare catchers Quote Link to post
whin 463
dutch ran several white tails as he lived in minnesota for years but he says the jack rabbit in south new mexico can run the hardest of them all heees like myself hees a hunter and thekill is as important as the chase some days but if the hare gets away well not aproblem but like him i breed and run dogs to catch not for show or anything else to harvest game or try Quote Link to post
