whin 463
dutch has kiiled 50 jack rabbits this year with his line bred long dogs , heather ive saw lots of salukis but not many that would do what i expect out of a well bred running dog here in scotland , ive saw lots of saluks and not many rock my boat ,but there shall be some that are capable of killing jack rabbits consistently , me im not intrested in showing never will and never have its about hunting , and away to fech from these poxy shows im afraid ,in the feild and out catching game , its not about pionts for me either its kill the hare or nothing we dont work on pionts in the uk they either kill the hare or well its nothing , and single handed or doubled up coursing a lot diffrent from usa , ive hunted in arizona new mexico and texas border some strong running jack rabbits maybe one day ill have a trip out heather i heard they hole up in wyoming in badger holes etc as i know people who have hunted up that way cheers Quote Link to post

Kye 77
When i used to run my dogs on the NV/CA border, we had a great spot...mostly sage surrounding a dry lake bed. My male pup was started on jacks, and he took 70+, single handed, daytime...longest ever couse was 5 1/2 minutes...he was running three times a week....i also ran him doubled up, and on the lamp....obviously we got more doubled up, and my bitch took about 20 odd in the daytime, but she 'aint built for 'em... Ive ran and killed jacks in AZ and NM, but the hardest, imo where in WY...but when i was in WY, my dogs hadnt seen a hare/rabbit for over 18 months, so i feel they had lost the edge...i think a agood hare dog should be run as regular as it can (of course being given time off for recovery/injury etc, to stop them going stale) Hares are the thing i miss about the western states the most!... TYKEY 0
talked to the owner of khan etc he seems a decent guy and hees told me straight what the dog does and doesnt , i like the look of the dog and invited him up for a hunt, him and another saluk man , saw hundreds of pure saluks run in the desert areas of new mexico some class ones and some curs but i think alot is to do with owners and how much they get out with there dogs alot of them love saluks but alot are not mad on the chase, like myself and others , if i was ever going to get a pure saluk i would have to see the parents doing something etc as alot of money for to catch hares roe or rabbit when it was legal, and they can get hurt the same as a 200 pound dog , i like them had saluk crosses near enough twenty yrs and some are good and some are huffy etc you need to work with them and not be to harsh and they take longer to mature sometimes all the best lovelylooking dog mate Quote Link to post
