SNAP SHOT 194
Got the call at work yesterday, from the farmer whose land i shoot over he was in a rage and had lost twins to an unknown cause, one of the lambs i later found with about quater the back end eaten out of it, So i said i would call down last night, we left the lamb were it was and decided to sit in the jeep lamping occassionly to see if we could pick the culprit up, no joy after about an hour of we headed to try and get the rest of the lampshy guy's still running a muck about 4 miles away. We only had the light on them and they would scatter, quicker than frank gallagher at a drugs bust So back we headed to the hill, lamped to see if the lamb was still there, which it was, after what seemed like an eternity i decided to turn the caller on before i was going to head home, after about 10 minutes those tell tale eyes light up in the night about 670 yards away. We turned the caller on low and decided to wait before lamping again, after a few minutes we lit the place up looking for it only to find it about 90 yards away!!!!!!!! As soon as we lit it up of like a rocket it went, keeping it in the scope while tearing through the glen was indeed a struggle until it stopped to what it thought was a safe distance 387 yards to be precise, knowing that 23 clicks was equal to 400 yards i settled at 22 clicks never without looking at the drop for anything else for speed, BANG, i hit it square on the shoulder blade, and it fell down the hill slightly runing i was thinking i must of grazed it, but by the time we got to it she was dead. looking at the point of impact i couldn't believe she got as far as she did, i can only put it down to the fact that the hill was so steep she got a good distance away from were i shot her. My reward 12 duck eggs 6 hen eggs and permission wrapped up for the rest of my days if i want it, 400 acres of open countryside, Happy days. Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
:notworthy: Excellent shooting, nice bit of permission to land yourself with, is it all glens and hills? am yet to shoot a fox with my new .222 but who knows sunday may be the night. Quote Link to post

I wish you the best of luck..the .243 is certainly capable of that range but it is a very very long way, I've done the 600 at Bisley with my .223 but that was really all the way for it! I've also been on the 1200 yard range with the lads but not actually shot it! Never droped a fox at nearly 400 yards like you though, so respect! I have one piece of land with a raised copse, ideal for prone, and a well used fox track around 500 yards away presenting a great shot. I've checked it out with Mr Logic and one day we are going to sit and wait! If either of us make that one the Champagne will be out I can tell you, don't hold your breath though! Quote Link to post

Well, now I have the 243, time to give that a try! 58gr Norma stuff was grouping 1.5 inches at 200 yards in today's howling wind (you can tell I had a new rifle that I just had to shoot!!) so should be good for it.
