fastrac10 0
Looking at buying a second hand 243 rifle for shooting foxs maybe the odd deer. Not sure to go for a Sako 75 or Tikka T3, both good guns but is the Sako worth paying more for - is it that much better? Thanks Quote Link to post
martin 332
Well I recently had to make the same decision as to which .243 to go for and,I went for neither of those! I went for a Remington 700,and,mainly because I can modify it as I want to at a later date.....ie. barrel/trigger/stock as there are a lot of mods for the Remmy. That added to the fact that they are a hell of a lot cheaper. And,I can honestly say that I am not disappointed with my choice.................Martin. p.s. A friend of mine uses a Tikka T3 and,he swears by it. Quote Link to post
James@Scarborough 0
I will be buying a Remington 700 .243 in the very near future. I have been looking for the "right gun" for some time, and all things concidered, this is it. If I had to make a choice between Sako and Tikka (and I could afford a Sako) it would have to be Sako. They are made by the same company, but the Tikka is the "Budget version". Tikka are good for accuracy but over priced for their build quality. Remmy 700, Win 70, Sako 75, all good guns, take your pick. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
It is an interesting arguement by Martin about buying a gun he is not that happy about so he can buy/make all sorts of modifications on it. It's an argeument I have heard many times for many things, not simply guns, but I have never quite understood it, I always buy someting I like that does the job, don't see any logic in buying something and saying it will be ok after I have spent a load more money on it and made X Y Z modifications. Having said that the R 700 is a cracking gun anyway, and available in a lot of variations. I understand some may be available with a magazine now, or a mod to fit a magazine (someone will tell me more on that) Sako or Tikka would still be my first choice, based on quality accuracy price AND detachable magazine, I simply hate this fixed floor plate malarky! The Sako would be my first choice, overall build quality is better than Tikka, a more solid gun, but the barrels on Tikka and Sako are all made by Sako (both S & T are owned by Beretta). If you can afford Sako it is worth the difference, if I could afford it I would have bought the new 85, as it was I bought a Tikka T3, I'm happy! PS The Winchester Model 70 went out of production a couple of years ago, it was made for what seemed like about 100 years and had a staggering model choice. There are apparently plans to re-intruduce the model but production will not be at the original plant. The Model 70 is and was, a legend in it's lifetime and if you can find a good one it could well prove an excellent buy. Not many find their way on to the used market as most of their owners love them! Edited March 20, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
The Remington 700 SPS is available in larger calibres with a detachable mag - the SPS DM, I think it is. Turners in Reading have one in the flesh (243), so they do exist Quote Link to post

Hi Remmy It's going very well thanks, never knock them over in huge quantities but always steady...and we still have to the end of the month down here for ALL the Does!!! The English may well pay for the Scots National Health, Pensions, and Parliament buildings but at least we are allowed to shoot a bit longer than you Scots! Mind you, with that Remmy and Scope of yours I suspect you could shoot from Scotland across the border into England and extend your seasons a bit! Quote Link to post

Hi Deker,I am obviously not in your league(moneywise)and, that was the reason to go for a second hand Remmy that I could in the future(as and when I can afford it)add the odd modification. As I said though,as it is at the moment I am VERY happy with it..................Martin. Nothing to do with money, the T3 Lite and Remmy 700 are available at very similar prices, and as I said the "Remmy 700 is a cracking gun anyway" It was only the fact it did not have a detachable mag or I would probably have bought one myself (just hate that)!! SAKO Yes I'm thinking of going with second hand Sako but had a good deal offered on a new Tikka T3 stainless. The second hand Sako does have a really good scope on it, so still thinking that's the way to go. Thanks anyway! Quote Link to post

The second hand Sako has a better scope on it than the Tikka, so part of the extra is going on that. I keep getting told to spend as much as I can on a scope. Thanks for the advice and I'm pleased your happy with your Tikka. Quote Link to post
