BED WETTING

any help and comments would be welcome, ive got a 7yr old plummer terrier whose started pissing in his bed, ive never experienced this before or heard of anybodies dogs doing it before.

it started about 6months ago and after a while i sent him to my parents house and for a couple of months he stopped, so he came back, but a month later he started doing it again.

he,s never been a lover of cold weather and my lass thinks he,s just a lazy larl twat and wont come out into his run ,but he does come out for a shit, so is he (1) lazy, or (2) incontinent, due to his age, and he,s pissing his bed in his sleep and not realising it, having said that 7yr old isnt THAT old is it

i would appriciate any help/feedback as im at a loss what to do.

One of my bitches started doing it occasionaly at about 8 year old but got worse as time went on, I thought the same as you that she was just a lazy bugger who did not like the rain. After a while i mentioned it to the vet she said it is quite commen in bitches for leakage to occur as they get older especialy when asleep but also dogs can suffer from it, it is just the muscle around the bladder gets weaker with age. It was treated with drops in her food i cannot remember what it was but is a very cheap treatment. Better to have him checked incase there is a underlying cause for the problem. Good luck Dave R

Mucker-this is a very relavent question.I had problems with dogs pissing the bed area so I narrowed the sleeping area down with a board.Now the dogs have to move forward to piss.This smaller area is also easier to keep warm!.

i have had dogs and bitches do this , but mainly bitches , tried reduceing there boxes and they still piss in them .. look forward to the replys as i just put up with it now ,

been thinking of going to the vets just to see what he says, as regards to his bedding area, you can comfortly fit 2 terriers in his bed and i thought this might be the problem so i placed a terrier basket inside his bed and his wetting stopped for a while but then started again so ive stopped using blankets and now i use scrunched up newspaper for easyness, i replace the paper every day as its a daily occurence.

Apparently all the wild species of dog do this,vet says its a necessary thing to maintain a good coat.Its only us that find it disgusting.In the wild ,a dog would move to another den when it got too bad.

The best is to going to the vet ! My house dog piss a few times on my bed and a few times in his flybox ! 2 times i saw it and he lay on his side and hit with his leg´s ! it is a sickness called here in germany " epilepsie" ! it is not deadly and the dog don´t have pain , he really didn´t know what happend to him ! it´s something with the brain but it´s not as bad as it sounds !

maybe it´s something like this ... best thing go to the vet !

I have a young bitch doing this as well.

I've put two of those plastic meat trays on their bench both filled with straw - she pisses on one mainly so they have one clean at least to sleep in. The trays allow the piss to drain out a bit anyway.

Foxhound bitches are the worst for it.
