Guest markbrick1
i never drove a field at night until 2 yrs ago, but run the dogs behind the landrover every day........now on some of my farms i have no choice but to drive em big stubble fields with not lots of rabbits so the farmer doesnt mind me driving them and the dogs run at the side of the landrover theyve got it to a tee then when they catch straight back with the rabbit, one thing for sure is if i did this pre ban i would of caught a lot of foxes as the ground we cover is massive, dont get me wrong i prefare walking but like i say i do this for a hobby and have thoushands of acres of permission and i find it a very effective way of catching a lot of bunnies and seeing a lot of other critters but i prefare to walk, mark Quote Link to post
Paul in North Lincs 15
one of our permissions is over 5000 acres of arable land..........and not all of the fields hold scutts.... its essential here to use the landy....spot the gear......and lamp up....... I do like a good mooch though just the same Quote Link to post
LDR 29
driving fields....it's bloody ridiculous, lazy buggers the lot of em.... Quote Link to post
salukiman 28
i am not lamping massive areas like some so i have no need for a 4x4. i dont think i would use one any way i like moving on foot, bieng quiet and getting as close as i can in stelth is what it is all about for me. just me, the dog and the quarry thats an art form. field craft is bieng replaced by technology and skills are bieng lost. i think that the new generation of hunters(including me) need that education. this is only my opinon, not right not wrong just the way i choose to conduct myself Quote Link to post
LDR 29
sometimes i wish i drove the fields as my hunting partner sometimes needs a piggy back on the way back to the car, mentioning no names CHARTPOLSKI!!!!! Quote Link to post
whin 463
royston i have got something to say constructive to say but idont beat about the bush when a guy sayys poeple who drive feilds etc would better stay in the house i think the guys not got a clue or never done that type of hunting, im well against cowboys driving planted feilds and disagree full stop with that game but on big old feilds you would never get near the qaurry or lose him on the lamp or you would be ages to the end of the feild were a quick drive in lights out lamp on you keep up with the game and if you want to park out the way its ideal , when i think of the game ive caught and i mean game hares roe etc i would had half maybe walking etc , i walk all the time but like the ole apache warrior or plains tribes men you need the car to get the qaurry etc , some nites and many a nite parking under a tree im well out the way , when your man says ,hit and run and dont stay to long in the same place after nov etc most ofthe stubbles are cut so you walk and do it diffrently , , even in nem mexico we drive the miles and miles of roads in the prairies to find qaurry , some of there feilds are 12 sqaure miles , no jeep no game , but in the daylite we walk maybe 2 to 7 miles a day for game diff places diff approach , being doing it that way for near enough twenty yrs on some land , and had several people outand some well it wasnt for them and others who had simliar land loved it cheers Quote Link to post
