scent 509
Yeah agree with you there, jess is also a cracking rabbit dog, I have the best of both worlds with her. Are you refering to the wheaton that Brian had and gave away to slip I think it was? I could be wrong. close lad.shep lol think he might be stil a member on here shephound but does not own the dog anymore. i seen the dog run and it was out of condition but still done excellent. i can only imagine what the dog was like fully fit. think it was catching 20ies on the lamp for shep just shows a dog that cant make it as a fox dog can do other things thats why i think these crosses like collie and other crosses are better than most thats right sam he jacked on foxes for me so i gave him to shephound as he wanted him for bunnies ,first night he had him out got 22 bunnies and took large quarry aswell but nothing that bite back Quote Link to post
harddigging 42
a little off topic but how do you find them speed wise, for example wolud a 3/8 wheaten be as fast as a 1/4 bull with them being a lighter and less dense bone structure, it may be a daft question but ive been wondering about it a while now. Guest deerhound hunter
a cracking looking lurcher too!! i suppose some dogs dont do fox even the weathon cross but the good thing about this cross where i think bullx fails is that they can make excellent rabbiting dogs!!! you only have to ask scent about that with ol jack,an excellent rabbit dog that didnt like fox how can a bull x not be a rabbiting dog if thats the case then my bull x musnt be a bull x. i hate it when theres a thread about a certain x then some one will come on and put the bull x down just cause they aint got one. ive seen both these xs work and get a good bull x and a good wheaton x and the bull x will show it right up. FACT. I AGREE MATE I,D TAKE BULLX OVER ANY WEATONX MY BULL BITCH IS 1 OF THE BEST RABBITING DOGS IVE SEEN,EVERY1 HAS THEIR OWN OPIION Edited May 12, 2010 by deerhound hunter Quote Link to post

FACT. Nah load of nonsense.. well, obviously some will and some wont. Same as any x. How many times have you worked with a wheatonx and a bullx together? I work probarbly once a week with a wheaton x... iT IS A VERY STRONG dog, but tiers quite quickly for some reason, especially after being behind a big ear. incidentlyhas only ever caught the mountain strain, and not the brown strain, may explain abit about it pace..(preban of course) As for the foxing side, dogs jack in all breeds... We entered this wheatonx to charlie with an already proven dog. The fox in question was a very big dog, and took some beating, it had the wheaton by the face, we parted it and let it go , it went straight back in and let the charlie get a grip of it in the same place! Never once did it make a sound, and never once did it pull away... Quote Link to post

I AGREE MATE I,D TAKE BULLX OVER ANY WEATONX MY BULL BITCH IS 1 OF THE BEST RABBITING DOGS IVE SEEN,EVERY1 HAS THEIR OWN OPIION Hi deerhunt, you say it is one of the best rabbiting dogs you have ever seen. May i ask, how many other dogs have you watched rabbiting? And how many different types of lurcher? I will put either of my dogs against any bullx for rabbiting. Not out and out running of the rabbit, but actually finding then in the bush and then running them. Its like birds dog on here (bryn) top rabbiting dog. And everyone who has been out with it, off here, will vouch for that. Have you been with such a dog... Or are you blinkered to bullx. Bearing in mind that i have owned them, and work with them on a weekly basis... And they are some top bullx, ranging from 23" to 29".... weight in from 40lbs to 90lbs... Quote Link to post

FACT. ive had bullxs since the early 90s ,im now running a wheaten lurcher shes more steadier than any bullxs ive had feet and coat are superb mines only young but from what ive seen very intellingent x allways willing to please im now a wheaten man for life, its a shame people are so kennel blind sometimes they dont no what there missing not giveing another type a try i suppose people are stuck in there ways and believe what folk tell them about certain xs instead of learning them selfs in the field Quote Link to post
