feeding raw food???

Recommended Posts

i am looking for a bit of advice on feeding raw. my two staffords have been on a raw diet for about 8 months. as i work in a butchers i can get all the food i want for them and it doesnt cost me a penny. i feed them about 1lb a day. there diet consists of chicken hearts, ox hearts, lamb hearts, kidneys, scrap meat, chicken carcass and wings, lamb ox and pig bones and any other sort of meat i can get my hands on. they very rarely get anything esle apart from meat apart from raw eggs and milk every other day which is mixed in with there meat, is there anyother thing i should be feeding them like raw veg or anything.

also my youngest bitch would sometimes trail her arse across the ground, is this anything to do with the food? apart from that they are two healthy dogs.

any help would be greatly appreicated?

Sounds like ye doing about fine there, mate. Watch out with the bones, other than lamb rib, 'mind because they can shatter and nick the gut on their way down and through.

Dog dragging its bum means one of two things: Compacted anal glands or worms. Ye Dogs simply won't get compacted glands on that sort of diet. The bone will make their shit hard, dry and chalky - natural. And that same shit will, naturally, excise their glands and keep them happy and healthy.

However, raw pork? Do ye worm her when she exhibits that behaviour? :hmm:

I would ease back on the eggs a bit mate, one a week would be fine, and, fresh water instead of milk. You can give fresh veg that is minced or blended. While you are feeding a fair amount of offal, how is your dogs sh1t?Is it firm,or is it runny. If it is runny then I would say to cut back the amount of offal. If you imagine the amount of offal inside say a pig carcase, then, you should be feeding that same % of offal to carcase as offal to feed(so approx. 80% meat to 20% offal....if that makes sense). But,the most important part of feeding raw to dogs is .....keep them regularly wormed!

Martin.
