Keeps 403
Went out ferreting yesterday for the first time in a few weeks for one reason and another. It had to be the coldest day in the year; it was windy and freezing cold, damp too. We did a new woods today, and the signs looked good, we saw a few rabbits about the place and had our first catch in the bag in minutes. But it was not to be, our old hob ferret was playing up, he went missing for ages. We noticed there were quite a few young around today, there weren't any the last time we were up, and maybe thats why, apart from the jills starting to come in season which might have been the other distraction We spent a lot of time standing around in the cold. It was noisy because of the wind in the trees and difficult to hear, or to distinguish my teeth chattering from the knocker box knocking Indie also seemed distracted today, but Nuala is in season and they have been separated, oh the joys of spring Mr Keeps uttered the words today I never thought I would hear (and he never thought he would say) "we didnt half miss Nuala today I took a few pics, not a lot, as today was very slow, and the conditions were not good We will the place a try some other day, you never know we might have better luck I was just glad to get back in the car in the warm didnt warm up the whole way home which takes us just over an hour Edited March 17, 2008 by Keeps Quote Link to post

Magpie 102
I'm sure keeps you wouldn't mind if I elaborate on the lineage of Indie's Working Beardie blood line. The Beardie blood in Indie is from the Tom Muirhead line of working Beardie. Virtually all working Beardies carry this line as the gene pool for genuine workers is very small. My own bitch that is half Beardie carries the same line although from an arm of the family that was used extensively on the outer hebs. Tom with one or two others, namely Peter Wood and Brian Plummer did much to retain and strengthen the the working Beardie gene pool. It is one of these dogs bred by Plummer the is the grand sire to Indie and also the sire to my old Beardie half cross bitch, sister to Indie's dam. There is a gentleman by the Name of Foster that also produced and worked Beardies in Worcestershire. It was in fact one of his line that Plummer used to produce Richard Jones, David Hancock's (please, no bitching) original Beardie x Border stud dog. Not wishing to bore you any further I'll cut this post short by saying, you can find plenty of information on Tom's line on the net and in various books relating to the true working Beardie. Heres just a few pics of my Beardie lurchers. Quote Link to post
Keeps 403
I don't mind at all Magpie, its all very interesting stuff Your old bitch in the bottom pic pays more than a passing resemblance to Indies mother Quote Link to post
whin 463
so who bred the pup or indie and what type of greyhound ,did hanckock breed it or was it home bred tom murehead etc lived only at dunsyre i no people with beardies from steel of denny and nobles from broughton area in scotland they have a few beardies mostly workers, in fact they are as they have 1000 sheep etc used to do the foxes on there land etc, long befor plummer etc we had beardies in scotland etc got pics of them f rom 1920sand30ts great to see there from a book about farming in the 20ts and 30ts good pics etc,i dont rate plummer and hanckock as genuine hunting men just breeders or profit breeders sauch is life , more to the piont is there anybody got working beardie crossesout side the hanckock stuff as an old freind bred a litt a good few yrs ago .i like them better than the border etc Quote Link to post
Keeps 403
Indie was home bred out of a half x beardie/grey (hancock bred) to a track greyhound and the litter was bred for personal use (he kept a bitch). What I do know is that the person who bred him works all of his dogs to an extremely high standard on difficult terrain. The lad who bred him is a genuine hunting man; a true gent of the hunting world. I have no interest on whether Indie originates back to hancock/plummer etc etc - I really couldnt give a monkeys. At the end of the day its the dog that counts and if the dog works well then thats good enough for me, regardless of how he is bred. Quote Link to post
