All the signs of pregnance

Recommended Posts

hi, iv kept ferrets for years but only recently bred one of my jills, she came out of sason within a week of being with my hob and tomorrow is suppose to be her due date. (they are suppose to be pregnant for 42 days yea??) anyway she's showing signs of pregnancy (nipples getting bigger and fur is falling out a bit) but she doesnt seem to have put on any weight and this worries me that it might be a fantom pregancy.I any thoughts would be appreciated. thankyou

My god Kay. Did she give birth to a tennis ball? She's so round!

The jill dosen't have to put on weight to pregnent. I have seen some weird jills. Had a jill, she gained a hole 250 grams (!!!) and came out with = nothing. She had a big soft belly hanging beneath her.

Now I come on other foras also. And on a Danish forum for ferret owners we had a thread about jill weight and the number of kits that arrived:

200 g = 8 kits

250 g = 3 kits

200 g = 7 kits

170 g = 5 kits

222 g = 5 kits

170 g = 3 kits

I hope it helps, but anyways... You will find out soon enough if she has any kits. Good luck with it!

The gestation is around six weeks, if I remember rightly.

When is she due?

In the last week they tend to sleep more than normal, also depending on the set up you have in the bedding area she should make a nest normally close to giving birth. The nest will be just like what she normally makes but with a fur lining that she will pull out.

Ive had ferrets that you could hardly tell that they were pregnant, only time will tell for you. If your still not sure I would make sure she is on her own and has plenty of bedding material (I use straw), and left to her own devices.

Hope this helps a bit.

Danny.

No Julia she only had 1 live kit believe it or not, the other one was still insider her dead & she had to have some oxytocin to help her pass it, so looks are very deceiving

Two years ago i experienced exactly the same. Had all the symptoms yet never had any babies, or as was suggested at the time, she only had a couple and ate them on the night they were born.
