ferreting the old fashioned way

Recommended Posts

I use a combination of the two methods............i work my ferrets without collars as a rule BUT always have a couple of collars to hand.......... if i get a lay up i can send a ferret with a collar to locate the kill. It has worked for me for many years now and i seldom have to dig.

Rolfe.

Woah! Punctuation phobia? You might want to try and include at least some in your post if you want it to be readable.

Never used locator till started going again this year with bussa!

Had probs fisrt time out with a slipped collar, cured by changing to leather!

They seem OK just bloody expensive!

Previously always used jills loose and if needed a hob on a line, who remembers that?

Never really dug much but tried to avoid ferreting when young about!

kiil the rabbit , etc , puntuations means fech all in the hunting game and if youve done as much as some of us in this short life we pass through you would no what your talking ABOUT AND I DONT MEAN JUST FERRETING, ferrets in general should work lose end of story , i would still work mines with collars or with out , had several days without collars and when i found my box ,collars, etc put them back on and dug five more the same day , there alot of dinlos on these channels who are niave to the game and should listen and learn to people who have done it for many years and are knowlegble

interesting topic this  i use both methods , although its not often i dont use a locator.

for those of you that dont use locators , and say you dont dig very often , well of course you dont . but i can garantee you have left alot of rabbits behind, both dead and alive .

3 of my jills are on the small side , 1 in patricular is very small, but even this liitle jill, can and does kill quik.

dont get me wrong , if your happy to leave a few under ground , well thats your choise, fair play.

like i said at the begining i do somtimes stll use them without collars . young ferts in september with green rabbits in open warrens long net round , no purse nets 4-5 young ferts in let them work it for them selvs no collars getting cought up on nets.

also somtimes i like to have a wander with a small jill in the pocket a few nets and the little dog , no spade, just ferret a few little warrens . the dog marks . nice and quiet no fuss.
