I'll agree that they are "Easier" but in no shape of form would I call them "EASY".... Well not for the Collie Cur rabbit hound's that I keep. I've spun a few over in the past... :whistling: but the vast majority have been on drill field's and not in small walled field's with longish pasture.... and believe me on the drill they don't seem to run any slower than daytime IMHO I think you just stand a better chance of keeping them in the field.... ;)

I hear so much about how people make out hares on the lamp to be such and easy target for any lurcher no matter the size or shape. yes a daytime hare will run better and its more of a test for any dog but personally i do not think they are anywhere as easy as people make them out to be, in my eyes they cannot be blinded by the lamp as much as people like to make out other wise how do they perform there amazing maneuvers to escape the strike of the dog at that split second, then depending on the land you lamp you have the brows which do not make things easier.

just wondering what everyone elses view on a lamp hare. and ask you to vote on the poll.

W.h

they still fly on the lamp mate if your in real big fields and driveing the dog has got a fair chance if your on foot in tiny fields you need a fast dog to tie them up quick but they still plought through hedges just like a lampshy rabbit mate

hares are not easy on the lamp especialy if they have been run before.early season after the first cuts they are easier.seen lads go out catch a few early season and think they have hare dogs and come november-december the same dogs are getting straight lined :D .

a friend of mine did plenty of lamping with good results but in the day time not the same

so i guess it must easer be easier in the lamp just my opinion :whistling:

might be easier but still not easy

:whistling: Stand in a gateway (escape route) put the lamp on and watch puss running towards you, easy :whistling:

whats the point in voting...

hares have still got the same set of legs and the same heart as they did before it got dark they dont suddenly transform into another species, its just that they make more mistakes when a lamp is on them where i am their is no gateways as such just, tractor crossings ,so your opinion is only of the land where you hunt .go up the fens and try and find a gateway to stand in and it would be daylight before you come across one good luck trader

why do people come out with such foolish coments , all it shows is there sheer lack of experiance.

there are certain areas where a hare will get lifted very easy on the lamp . and others where its just not going to hapen.

some of the land i hunt the hares are over a brow in the field and gone. you stand almost no chance on the lamp.

dont get me wrong , theres no finer test for a dog than a strong winter hare daytime.

but the only ones fooling them selvs are people that think all hares lamped are easy

Horses for courses fella, I never said all lamped hares are easy, in my 'limited' experience and on the land I used to lamp it WAS EASY, in as much that we were taking 10+ hares in a night with two half tidy collie/mongrel type lurchers... I've never lamped a Fenn hare and probably never will, but in a percentage game HARES ARE A LOT EASIER ON THE LAMP.... that's a fact... :big_boss:

just the truth mr ox mate if lads like to think differently then the can fool them selves

l lamped rabbits for 30 years and i never thought hares were hard to catch, where the land has been lamped a lot they will leave the field as soon as you turn the lamp on ,just as rabbits will.I once had a very good dog, [bedlington whippet] he was,nt very fast but had loads of stamina and a brilliant strike, one night at peterbororough he caught 9 hares and 40 rabbits ,This dog could catch nothing in day light ,but on the lamp he was magic.

This is proof to me that lamped hares are no real test for any running dog

localy hares in daylight and at nite are not easy as the same hare is getting chase in daylite and at nite the only way it is easier is ie they hit the odd obstacles i know were they roughly run , but ive saw them in daylight and nite straight line the dog out the beam were as during the day the dog can stick on him bend him and work the hare hares locaLY ON SOME LAND ARE BETTER DURING THE DAY AS YOULL GET THE CHANCE BUT AT NITE THEY GET OUT THE BEAM , they are exersised regulary with all sorts of dogs foxes so are wary come march they run not as strong but still strong enough to get away from most dogs localy they have had 40 yrs of people coursing, them you do get them on the stubbles easy sep oct but come dec when the wheats winter wheat and they are a bit wiser only decent dogs catch regulary all the best
