dogga 1
how can anyone tell you when to start a pup unless they know the dog?some dogs are keen as mustard and have to be held back whilst others start slow and dont need to be held bak.most will say show it rats at around 6 monthes depending on the dog but you should know when its ready for them .dont ever over face a pup ,always keep it winning .dont be over quick to start it on earth work you may end up sickening it.when its ready you will know then let it look but not touch first of all then go from there.i have a pup who is very slow but from a good background so ill just let him go at his own pace .keep showing him rats etc and see how we go Quote Link to post
dev 227
start thinking about entering him at 12 months then take it easy on him for a good while, good luck mate Quote Link to post
Guest john the baptist
I agree with Dev. Try the youngster at 12 months or so. It would do no harm to take him along and peg him down to watch and listen to your other dog while its working. More importantly though, keep the young pup winning, try not to overmatch him. Hope this helps. John Quote Link to post
