bigbulls 26
most BOP handlers have been grabbed by a bird at one time or another with different degrees of seriousness, here is the account of my most painfull incident...... a chap called in one day who had been passing and seen us out with the hawks, he had recently rescued a Bengal eagle owl that was not being kept propperly and wanted a bit of help and advice with it, not that i no a thing about owls mind you, but i said i would pop up and have a look. the flight he had set up was fine and the bird seemed happy enough, closer inspection showed that it must have had the same crispy anklets on for quite some time and as he wanted to put the bird out on the block at some point they needed to be replaced. i said i could do it no probs for him and had all the gear with me, so in i go to catch up this cute fluffy thing. it dropped to the floor and i picked it up without to much fuss, now what the hell i was thinking i dont no but instead of holding like i would a harris i held it like you would a chicken for instance. mr cute and fluffy suddenly shot out two supprisingly long legs and took a firm hold of me, one set of daggers had my left wrist and the other my VERRY inner thigh. i sort of wondered back and forth with it hanging off me and could not best decide how to end the pain i was in, i rested the bird on its side on a log in the flight and waited for it to let go. after what seemed like a week it let me go and flew up to its perch and clicked rather loudly at me. im straight out and drop my strides, yep still got two, now see where all the blood is coming from. i ended up with a few neat scars and a bit of wounded pride but got off light i reckon. i still went back in and caught it up PROPPERLY and changed its gear though so as not to loose to much face. the worst thing was, whilst i was going through this ordeal my dear old dad was watching and laughing himself silly, i could not seem to convey to him how serious the situation was for me!!!! any other such accounts??? Its the right underside of my forearm Farlap when I put my arm up to hold her away, she's relentless in her attacks while I'm at the nest ledge, but I always double clutch all the pairs. this particular time she bound to my arm and kept pumping until she succeeded!! there is no mercy with this particular female when threatend, when on eggs she will defend it with her life.... Johnjo 0
I have to say the most painfull experience I have had was when I was entering my Golden Eagle for the first time a disaster of a day which ended up with the bird becoming confused and grabbing the dog. To prevent the dog being on the receiving end, I stuck by ungloved hand in between them both. The talon entered my ungloved hand at the base of my hand and was a millimetre from coming through to the palm of my hand very painfull and required a visit to the A&E Johnjo Quote Link to post
