dennned 172
Every show in Scotland is fixed i have been to most of them and nine times out of ten its known what dog is winning before it even starts and this is in no way sour grapes as i am not interested in scabby rosettes as my dogs are hunters and would rather have one bunnie than ten tickets but surely a show should be a level playing field to give everyone a fair crack? Why do judges at all the gamefairs and lurcher shows pick show dogs over working dogs,so [bANNED TEXT] they may have scares but this shouldn't stop them being judged fairly frost , in reply to your post , i have judged many times over the country , and i can honestly say , that no matter who is holding the dog , if it is the best specimen on show , i will give it first , as to your comment that every show in scotland is fixed , let me tell you this , i had a judge picked for one of my shows , and was told , over the phone , who was going to win , yes it was the same person , from all the phone calls , so i phoned the judge and told him he was'nt judging anymore , this caused an enormous row , but what the f**k , i run a straight show , cant comment on others mind you yours in sport dennned
chartpolski 24,118
I'd like to agree with Denned.. that was a rather sweeping statement to say "all Scottish Shows are fixed" !!!! I was at four Scottish shows last year and was lucky enough to get three Reserve Championships, including Reserve Scottish Champion of Champions, and believe me, I am not one of the "faces" or "clique" in Scotland, and also my dog is first and foremost a working dog. Of course there are fixed shows, in England as well as Scotland, but to say all are fixed is nonsense ! Cheers. Edited March 13, 2008 by chartpolski

Guest dog on
myself & a friend went along to a show on sunday. he hasn't been to a show in years, but used to do all the norfolk & suffolk shows in the 70's, and a few out of the area. he was appalled. no beer tent, no racing, the only dogs that looked like they'd been worked were ours (none of the rest had even a scratch on them), no fights, no bacon butty van, 4 quid to park, and NO SMOKING!!!! GOOD OLD DAYS
polecat 1
also as i recall the said person that he is talking about is a well known person in the show world of working dogs but i will say that denned is as straight as it comes one of his dogs qualified for champ of scotl;and and as he was running show wouldnt put dog in show thats what u call an honest man
frost 4
There might be some straight shows but not many for example at Hawick last year a well known bull cross which has won most of the shows up here in Scotland predominantly due to the fact of who his owner is and who his mates are won the supreme champion when the dog should only have been in the bull cross class but due to its owner ended up in the over 24 class and this happens at MOST shows up here and personally although rosettes dont interest me there are others who want a fair chance and they are not getting it Every show in Scotland is fixed i have been to most of them and nine times out of ten its known what dog is winning before it even starts and this is in no way sour grapes as i am not interested in scabby rosettes as my dogs are hunters and would rather have one bunnie than ten tickets but surely a show should be a level playing field to give everyone a fair crack? Why do judges at all the gamefairs and lurcher shows pick show dogs over working dogs,so [bANNED TEXT] they may have scares but this shouldn't stop them being judged fairly frost , in reply to your post , i have judged many times over the country , and i can honestly say , that no matter who is holding the dog , if it is the best specimen on show , i will give it first , as to your comment that every show in scotland is fixed , let me tell you this , i had a judge picked for one of my shows , and was told , over the phone , who was going to win , yes it was the same person , from all the phone calls , so i phoned the judge and told him he was'nt judging anymore , this caused an enormous row , but what the f**k , i run a straight show , cant comment on others mind you yours in sport dennned

dennned 172
show organisers like myself , have found out that it is near impossible to keep everyone who enters a dog or bitch happy , when it comes to a show , yes some judges are genuine and some are not , but organisers have to try and pick a judge , who knows what , he or she is doing , in relation as to how to judge a working dog , but please remember , all these judges , do an incredible job , ask yourself , this question , would you , be able to judge any better than the judge , or be able to take , some of trhe stick , for picking ( in your choice ) the wrong one as the winner , if you could then put your name forward for there next show. yours in sport dennned

Scallywag 78
I go to shows for the simulated coursing and to socialise. I think they're fun. I show my dogs for fun and thoroughly enjoy myself. I think they're f*****g brilliant and love to show them off! I've been asked more than once by judges if I work them and met with approval when I say I do. I've got a couple of red rosettes and my dogs have honourable battle scars which haven't been a problem at all. That's just my limited experience fo course but why take it so seriously anyway? It's a good way of killing time with your dogs til the season starts again
grewgirl 0
I still say that all show dogs should be in a different show to working dogs. So should Bull X which i dont consider good working dogs. BULL X should have their
