so, at long range, how do you tell it's not tiddles from that house yonder :hmm:

taken from the ADAS pest manuel;

it has been shown that domestic cats will join feral cat colonies for a few hours at a time, before returning to their familiar fireside

Well, easiest way is to letter-drop the local community and tell them Tiddles needs a reflective collar and bell, otherwise she is fair game!

In answer to calibre I would say for a decent range, 22 Magnum and upwards. As with fox, 22LR will do but not more than 50-odd yards or so unless you get loads of time for the shot.

My experiences with ferals would suggest a .22 rimfire fine for close work and absolutely anything bigger for further away.

You would be hard pushed to distinguish a house moggy from a feral at a distance, but i guess you know that.

Erm, not to be all girly and stuff but how do you know if they're feral? My cat comes in once or twice a day, has a quick nibble and a kip, then disappears again. He never keeps a collar on so I've stopped trying to get him to wear one.

I know cats aren't for everyone and to each his own, I'm not denying anyone their right to dislike moggies. But if someone shot my cat I'd be really fookin mad - and that wouldn't be a good thing for the shooter. What if you shot some poor old woman's pet, or a little kids' cherished friend? I can't think that someone would feel good about explaining to a four year old why their pusser was shot in the head. I suppose I understand why ferals need to be controlled but still ....

I know that the law is a bit shady regarding cats as to where and when they can be killed but as a rule of thumb ,if its in the wrong place and isnt wearing a collar and dosn'ts come up and rub your legs or purr softly when you coax it to you :icon_redface: ,then in my book its nine lives have expired and should be dealt with .If it does come up to you and purr and rub your leg , then it makes for an easier shot :whistling: Too many cats doing too much damage to all and sundry . :gunsmilie:
