T.F.Student 0
MarkBrick, Why can you still hunt rabbits and rats, put Terriers to ground, use lurchers, hounds etc within the law! Without the Countryside Alliance/The Marchers and the hunting supporters in the House of Commons/Lords EVERTHING would of been banned and backed up with the same penalties as there is for illegal hunting. As it is, its a far cry from perfect, but it is a damn site better than the alternative. With regard to existing organisations i see nothing at all wrong with specialised organisations, they enhance the scope for support in that they will pick up members who wouldn't be members of other organisations for whatever reason. The Countryside Alliance and the Game Conservancy (whatever there calling it now ) have supported Gamekeepers but neither could do what the NGO does. Also lets say theres a meeting with government or the Defra needs guidence on some countryside issue, there are three organisations they can call upon for opinions which surely holds more sway than one. Plus with these three at the table you get the landowners, the scientists and the man on the ground. What better groups could you get? New Organisations Its taken 10+ years for the NGO to get 12,000 members which is pretty amazing when they reckon theres about 3,000 full time and 3,000 part time keepers in the country! The UCSW has been going for a similar amount of time and has around 5,000 members. SAC'S has around 10,000 and has been going for longer than both. The Countryside Alliance has around 107,000 members and if you include the BFSS its taken 30 years +. This is the reality of the situation and unless you can offer something that isn't covered by the above organisations or somehow reach the people who these organisations can't and then the hard bit, convince them to join you...Your in for a long, hard, slog just like the others. Apathy!!!! Got it in one.
