A new Group for us all to unite behind

Recommended Posts

Sweetie i may be wrong and may be later the Sporting agent can either agree with me or put me right, but I’m under the impression that Chris isn’t wanting to replace organisations already in place nor create a new organisation that will be a carbon copy of those organisation’s, rather, i thought it was more geared toward people meeting to discuss their sport, learn about other area’s of field sports.

I know something similar to this is already done by several people i know and for the last few years it’s been a great success. People, particularly those who are new to this sport, are able to come and get advice on a variety of issue’s, including dog training, Getting their first gun licence, gun lessons or just to meet other’s and get advice. Although their may not be lots of professional trainers on this site, there's a great deal of people who know their sport, their breed of dog and can help others. Whether thats working with lurchers, gundogs, terriers or other's ( forgive me for the one's i've missed out)

I believe, but i may be wrong (correct me if i am, Chris) that the charity or none profit organisation Chris mentioned, means that people who attend may make donations that ultimately could be donated to organisations such as Dog rescue’s or something else to support field sports.

Basically, people can meet and see other aspects of the sport, learn about other types of the sport and where new comers, can make contacts etc.

Andrea can I ask a couple of questions re: your last post without seeming impolite?? while adding some comments

my points are in bold text::

Andrea say's

"i thought it was more geared toward people meeting to discuss their sport, learn about other area’s of field sports.

Tom say's

" I personally do this everyday in life as a volounteer with SAC's especially at Gamefairs during the summer months

If something else like this has been done to great success!! why is sporting agent trying to do it again!! if its allread been successful!! ( could you name the individuals who've allready made similar schemes a success??) The Scottish Association for Countrysports has already given advice to members and non members of the Association who are members of this forum in relation too and securing their gun liscence's

I don't see what I'm involed in as just a sport!! there's a whole ethos behind it eg: way of life, culture, history etc:

This seem's an ideal opportunity to be a cash cow ( money making enterprise for some-one) I'd hate to think fieldsports enthusiasts money was going to a dog rescue rather than pro-active lobbying in securing this way of life?? and the continuing of these pursuits?/

Talk about niave :whistling:

Tom, i really don't want to turn this into an agruement with naming names and throwing dirt. A few people get together, have a bit of fun, train their dogs and invite new people along, all informal and all for fun and to help those who need it, Nothing sinister.

You think i'm naive while i think you’re cynical, for what it’s worth, as soon as i read this thread, i knew people would come out with comments similar to the ones that have been written, which is precisely why i don’t want to get involved with this scheme.

I do however, support what TSA was trying to do, and i wish him all the best.

No, mark I don't!! when I go to gamefairs with the Scottish Association for Countrysports rather than the organisation paying for bed and breakfast or hotels I normally bed down in a sleeping bag in our display tent how many BASC or CA hobnobs do that??

I'm an unpaid volounteer with SACs!! why should members of SAC's subsidise me for doing something I love??

I'm a 50 year male thats been involved in shooting, ferriting and dogs since I was nine years old and after 41 years its in my blood and a solid commitment!!!

eddit to add, i write my post with a heavy heart because ultimately if we have such feeling against those who are involved in the sport, and trying to make a difference, how can we ever unite? It seems to me it just a word that gets tossed around without ever being practiced.

how very sad :(

Don't want to put a dampener on it but this is just wacky!! Do you know the in and outs of gaining charity status?? and what conditions are put on charities ie: non political status or affilliations therefore no lobbying you mention over 8,000 members on this site as prospective members of any organisation you put forward. just how many of the 8,000 are pro active on this site??, very view I gauge?? who are the individuals who'll sit on the board of this charity trust? where will funding come from?? wether you believe this or not its another divisive tactic which will fragment the other organisation allready in place, They allready make a good job of that themselves??, This whole proposal is reminiscent of Peter the Hermit recruiting for the crusades full of good intentions and doomed to failure.

Sporting Agent I don't know what makes you tick?? or wether you are genuine I'd like to think you are, honest but misguided, you put up a poll asking about membership of Countryside Organisations and who's a member of what?? In that poll you mention BASC, CLA, (both of which your a member) the Countryside Alliance etc: but no mention of the Scottish Association for Countrysports, (or was it deliberately ignored to promote organisations with single agendas eg: BASC= shooting Countryside Alliance = mounted packs) despite threads on here dedicated to it!! and indeed there is a SACs Hunting Life members club. I would suggest that it is the frontrunner in the any others group and currently lying third

I don't need to be a member of an organisation that truly caters for every-one Lurcher/Terriers Anglers, Falconers, Guns, Coursing, and foxhunting I'm allready a member of an organisation that allready does all of this and more!!!!!!!!!!!!, I'm a member of SACs and work up too four hours a day volountarily for them, and more during game-fair season I'm there because the organisation is commited to all countryside pursuits and members not just for cheap insurance

without being anymore pedantic I'll stick with the devil I know!! rather than jump into bed with new one's I don't or the old one's who don't give a feck!!

Tom

Do I know the ins and outs of setting up a charity? Whats involved? Likewise a NfPO? Yes, actually I do. I have been involved with two organisations (nothing to do with field sports) for over ten years,.

My reason for not including SACS in my poll (I had as you rightly presume intended their inclusion in Other) is because in the grand scheme of members organisations SACS are not one of the bigger recognised associations. That is no slight on SACS, but the ones I listed are everyday known organisations; nobody can presume to question the content of my iorriginal question, as it was set by me, for my information.

You seem to have either a missguided or uneducated idea of what I am proposing with this idea. I do NOT want to compete against the likes of BASC< CLA< CA NGO or even SACS. Read the contents of my posts and that will become clear as will the actuall reason for such a group.

There is no "jumping into bed" its a meeting of minds; if you can't see that then we are possably in more trouble than many of us thought.

Please take another look at exactly what I am suggesting; look at the idea impartially, without the emotion of SACS, as this truly is not an effort to compete againg SACS.

Someone asked if I earn a living from field sports; No I do not. I run a small sideline which provides sportinig oportunities for me in return for organisaing a small amount of sport for others. I still work full time 60hrs a week. But even if I did, does that make my love of the sports or opppinions less valid? No; we are ALL in this together; enyone who thinks otherwise is showing just the sort of apathy that will kill off what we love while others try and make posative steps.

So if we don't agree with TSA's idea that means that we can never be united?

How very self important of you

Not at all; you don't have to unite behind me at all, I'm just the one sticking my neck out at the moment because nobody else has or will; but WE DO HAVE TO UNITE in some way, behind something, with some direction. Thats the premis of what I'm saying.

No, it's about treating people with respect. Someone has an idea and everyone makes out he's after making a few quid. Those types of comments are nothing more than slanderous insults, that’s nothing to do with disagreeing, that about questioning someone’s character and integrity . Do you not see that as a problem?
