A new Group for us all to unite behind

Recommended Posts

If you take love hunting. Hate antis. Yeah, you've got common ground.

If you look at how the CA they distanced themselves, as far as they could from lurcher and terrier work, would you spend your money with them? They love hunting, hate antis but managed to alienate a massive section of the hunting community despite them (terrier and lurchermen) making up the bulk of the numbers at the marches.

What would be the reality though? Another group diluting the vote to keep us arguing... many would see conspiracy in such a move. You'd think that with the 7000+ members this forum has we could use that for good? So what's stopping progress and holding us back?

I think like you have said its apathy from the sporting population and where the organisations are concerned its one upmanship. No organisation wants to concede to another and they each a=have an agenda of their own, thats why I think an "organisation" or group that is only dedicated to uniting all field sports fans while promoting the sports to the population as oposed to solely looking out for one group is the way forward. Not to do the job of BASC or the other, they each have a dedicated roll to play.

Over the years I've seen so much infighting, in the hunting world, I've genuinely begun to wonder how much of it is stage managed and how deeply we've been infiltrated.

I think its sad that you think and feel that, but to a degree I agree; I have seen all sorts and unless we do something posative we WILL lose. Field sports is a very broad game, it encompasses fishing, running dogs, digging dods, many types of shooting, mounted hunting and more. Each participant looking out for their own sport in this time of uncertanty; we almost need someone to stand up and tell us what the common link is, where all our sports interlink, why it is that we love what we do........because deep down I think we have all forgotten about the big picture, about the countryside and what part all of our sports play in the shape of the countryside and its economy.

I can only agree with you there. In September 06 I started this thread to see who did what... it became quickly apparent that all the disciplines are linked in some way. The only division, in fieldsports, appears to be the actual representation. I know many people, as I'm sure you do, that are involved in several different kinds of sports. Yet in all this time they have to join several groups that represent them only on single issues. In all this time only the BFSS (read CA) have tried to encompass all of that yet have utterly failed the people they come to represent.

If someone was capable of a no nonsense interlink, of all fieldsports then we would be formidable opponents. In all this time why hasn't this happened? We can sit here and discuss it. It seems blatantly obvious to all involved yet nothing has ever happened. Call me cynical but it's almost like people are actually working to keep us all apart. Reading some of the forums, even on here, it's happening right on our doorstep. It's sad but who's going to do anything about it?

I am. At least, I'll try.

I agree with everything you said above, can't fault it Apathy, apathy and just a little dash of........apathy. Someone has to make a stand and try to pull it all together.

I'm in the BFC which is not on there. I also think a problem with alot expecially with the BASC is there extortionate yearly subscription fees! I came out of the BASC due to having to fork out near on £150 a year just to be in 3 clubs :hmm:....

For what it's worth. We have a forum here, accessed by thousands. Maybe a chat with the administrator would yield some assistance as far as a meeting place would go?

Having a one stop area for all things countryside related would help focus those that want to help, but feel lost.

Might be worth using this free site as we're having people join up all the time. Nothing wrong with a gentle nudge in the right direction.

The trouble with most organisations is that when they become big enough to have a voice where it matters, they get corrupted by the powers that be and its gin and tonics all round.

Politicians are experts in pulling the teeth of all these pressure groups.............they have been doing it for a long time.

None would stay true the cause...........every man has his price so they say ;)

My goodness..........the glass is allways half empty with me aint it.......lol

You're right WILF but this could be more about getting people to work towards a common goal rather than take funds to try and bribe people.

Enough volunteers could see the flow of information improve and allow people to log in and see where their attention is required.

Telling people how to approach their local MP's is a start as I'd bet that many don't even know who they are. At least 1 in 3 haven't a clue. From this forum alone that ratio equates to over 2300.

Keeping people up to date and discussing the stuff that matters trying to get the attention in the right areas... is a start. Pulling teeth and political corruption is quite a way away and usually starts when these organisations vote themselves salaried positions within the organisations.
