gaz 284
I apoligize lurchergirl, as what i can fathom from your reaction theres a certain amount of suffering and cruelty involved...i can see your point as i dont believe in prolonged suffering to a animal aswell, ive got to come clean through lazziness i didnt read the link through and just scant at it....sorry lass, but what concerns me more in the world we live in today is the cruelty and suffering carried out to man by man in the name of that old chestnut religion or the other scurge of the world....oil man can be a right c**t at times
Guest WILF
Lurchergirl..........the very nature of what we do requires some degree of what others would term "cruelty"..........I prefer the life and death struggle, but hey..........Battery chicken farming is cruel, halal meat is cruel, sticking an electrode on a pigs head is cruel............the foodchain is a cruel thing, allways has been, allways will be. So if the old chinkys can get the killing of the dogs down below the 3 minute mark, then it wont be cruel anymore? Edited March 11, 2008 by WILF
Tel1 26
ive been in the meat trade over 20 years, ive worked in halal plants where the sheep are run up a restrainer turned over and cut without any stunning. but worse still are the kosher plants where they cut cattle without stunning then just take the fore quarters, and it happens every day of the week in this country all in the name of religion
Malt 379
It's not for us to judge what other cultures do for food. The French eat horses, big deal, it's up to them. Just because we feel a certain way about a certain animal, don't give us the right to criticise others because they look at it a different way.

By cruelty I mean blatant and unecessary suffering. But anyway it's all so much hot air, I'm not a crusader or owt.
trappa 518
Im with lurchergirl on this. Each to their own and all that , but dogs!?! ffs come on! and taking 7 mins to die. Im afraid calling it culture is bollox in my eyes. In india they would throw the wife on a burning pyre alive if her husband died first-culture? NO In africa young girls get their clitoris cut out still- culture?NO In england white girls get raped by muslims who, because they arent muslim it apparently doesnt count. Culture-NO I could go on. To me they are uneducated , thick and sick.
Guest The Big Fish
There's really no excuse for cruelty, full stop. Indeed! I hope that everyone on this forum takes steps to ensure that whatever they are pursuing, is dispatched as quickly as possible... I once watched a video on the internet of the fur trade in china, to be honest i could only watch it once, it was horrendous and without need, i am sure a few of the members on here also saw that video. I am not saying that the same thing is happening in this story but 7 minutes to die is a very long time, time it....

To me they are uneducated , thick and sick. i'm behind both of you there. there is no damned need for a culture that forces another to suffer. thats not culture. they call it that, but its demented and useless and not productive to society. and there is no need to take five minutes to kill something. accidents happen sure, but a well placed blade ends it fast. if you havent got a blade then break its neck. there are loads of ways to kill things faster. it used to be european culture to bait bulls because it made the meat better..... now its outlawed. i think there is a sick satisfaction many people wont admit to having by watching something else suffer. people have ALWAYS had that satisfaction, long before Romans were feeding Christians to lions. and it still goes on today but its called culture now..... would you complain about the culture of someone who thinks its ok to molest and impregnate their own daughters? where does culture end and common sense begin? i say it ends when it effects the free will and quality of life of someone else... anything else. it ends when it causes pain and suffering for no need to an unwilling subject. Missie 1
I agree with Lurchergrrl, the cruelty is not neccessary. The fact that it is dogs, horses or whatever makes no difference but there should be some standards. However, there aren't and even when there are they are not always adhered to. Did anyone see the documentary about slaughter houses a couple of years ago? This was a slaughter house in England, I forget where but some of the employees did the meat trade no favours what so ever, they played games with pigs and stunners and laughed about it, I can only hope that they lost thier jobs as a result. Just a couple of quick questions, I don't want to upset anybody, but, How long does it take to dig to a fox that's being kept there by a terrier? For what length of time was a fox chased by a pack of hounds? But no that's all right, because it's our culture. I don't agree with eating dogs myself, I find the idea sickening, but what I'm getting at is the fact that some people seem to have double standards when they allow their feelings to get in the way of some perspective. Just look at the stupid laws we have in place at the moment. It's all right to kill rats with dogs, but not mice. It's all right to kill rabbits with a dog, but not a hare. My point is an animal is an animal. Why is one type of animal more important than another?
