FERRETBOY 680
ferreting again today on a few more hedgerows, the first warren was were we spotted a group of rabbits run too when we had a shine with the lamp last night. fern caught two off them with very exciting runs but missed the next three.anyway back to ferreting...the longnet was zig zaged on one field the length of the hedge whilst dad had fern round the other side ready for any bolts.we had one in the longnet and another two escaped running through the middle of the hedge into the safety of another warren.the net was gathered in and ran out on a other section of the hedge ,we caught two in the longnet and fern picked up another .we moved to a differant hedge ,a rabbit bolted and fern made a good catch about 200yrds away and retrieved it to about 20 feet from me.the land owner asked us to ferret a small wood which holds an extensive warren of about 100 plus holes .we set the long net through a clearing then entered the ferret and waited.within a few minutes two rabbits hit the long net at the same time which we dispatched and decided to leave this wood for next season as it would require 3 to 4 ferrets.the last warren we went to we caught another adult rabbit in the long net and i pulled out another young un which the ferret had hold of.we have told the land owner that next week will be the last we will ferret it this season but he still wants us to lamp it once or twice a month through out the year to keep the numbers down.heres a few pics my zig zag layout first rabbit of the day fern consentrating eod pic good hunting rew Quote Link to post

auld salmon 28
nice zig zag i did it like that when oot with del saves running whole lenght of net stops the rabbit running right along the whole net i think it makes a difference if it gets out the first time it stays in the same section and your no running the whole lenght like a dafftie Quote Link to post
whin 463
never zig zaged nets but had plenty ell nets for fish they run up the net or down and get hanked up salmon etc put ell shapes in for rabbits to it works well , i know people who zig zag netting for fish etc never tried it for rabbs all the best Quote Link to post
sue 1
the zig zagging idea is great i might try that sometime in the next season Quote Link to post
FERRETBOY 680
auld salmon your dead right ,it saves putting using stops nets and prevents the rabbits running the length of the hedge to then re enter the warren ,and ocasionley refuses to bolt the second time resulting in a lay up.i hate digging lol whin the start of my net was like you said ,ran out in a 'L' shape through a clearing in the hedge so stop the rabbits getting into the next section of hedge we were ferreting.on another warren we did the same but the net was snagged on a branch and the rabbit bounced out of the net will make sure the ground is free from any possible snaggs. pic below ,like this whin ? thanks everyone ,im glad you enjoyed the post and the pics good hunting rew Quote Link to post
