cocker 2,655
hi, i have been down to mike browns twice, i have a black bitch off him, and a black dog off him, they are both off sooty sam, out of two different bitches, pre ban i entered both on hares, once they were ready, they took a lot of hares as a pair in the daytime, i ran them competitivley with the east of england whippet coursing club and also the east anglia whippet coursing club, they both did very well here against some of the best, mine were like rockets, once that came to an end i lamped rabbits with them single handed, they would take just about every one and retrieve live to hand, they had good stamina good feet and were very hardy allround, but they used there brains well, and made it look too easy. they took to the lamp easily straight away, i have bred 3 litters of pups out of them and most of the pups have made excellent workers, mostly rabbit dogs, as this is what they excell at, they are really smart looking dogs well bred and i would reccomend him, if you are after a whippet, cocker Quote Link to post

cocker 2,655
hello hare, my dog and my bitch what i bought straight off mike at 6-7 weeks old were not headstrong towards me at all, they loved me to bits and would always be watching me and do what i asked them, they were quiet in the kennel outside, (they do prefer being indoors and near people as opposed to left for long periods outside), although i kept mine outside and mike also keeps them outside, they dont suffer the cold too bad they just crave human company thats all. although mine didnt howl and kick off and be a nuisance, they need a good warm kennel, and a good run each day on top of there work, they come back to you straight away, jump well, dont fight each other, and are good with kids, they travel in the car good, can be left on there own and dont wreck stuff, (i reckon his dogs have a good temperament is what i am trying to say) yet when it comes to work they are as game as any type, and they dont let you down, ive never had no medical problems with mine, although they do get cut a bit as they are very thin skinned, there feet are good and i havent had mine knocked up anymore than with any other dogs, i was coursing hares on stubble and winter wheat, mostly in lincoln norfolk suffolk, and would lamp them on rabbits anywhere, i used to lamp them on the slag heaps down the gare at redcar, this is teesides british steels dumping ground for slag a rocky byproduct from molten steel, like acres and acres of rough grey rocks and cliffs and scree etc, also worked them in the sand dunes, and on the teeside I C I tip which is full of allsorts of poisonous stuff and as rough as anywhere, anyone has ever been, because they are small and light they were really good on places that some other dogs would never last 5 minutes on, getting back to the beginning i really only worked them on preban hares and rabbits, i know there not everyones cup of tea but these are only my own opinions of owning my own whippets, that i bought off mike brown years ago, i have no other connection to mike brown so i am not trying to sell his dogs for him, i live in north yorkshire hes in north wales, and i have only met him twice, many years ago, so these are my own honest findings mate, saying that though hare, he is a really genuine bloke and he works his dogs. ps all the pups i bred off these two turned out similar to mine, as his breeding is good type to good type, the pedigrees are really good, and breed true to type, very predictable for confirmation and temperament. hope this helps hare cocker north yorkshire Edited March 9, 2008 by cocker Quote Link to post
