Clancy 1
I totally agree. My prayers are with them. Shaun Hornbeck was found here in the states after years. Don't give up hope.

Guest craftycarper
slightly off topic but i was looking at the story around that girl scarlet, murdered in Goa. After trying to cover things up by saying the girl drowned because she was rat arsed, and after the mother continually interfered, gathering her own evidence and taking photos they did a u turn and i believe they now have three people for it. Amazingly the authorities then wanted to speak to the mother as they think there might be a case of neglect. Now this girl was fifteen years old, now don't jump down my throat here, i agree that she shouldn't have left the girl while she went off walkabout for however long it was, but when you consider that the McCanns left a three/four yr old and the other younger ones that were with her while they were off socialising with friends it still surprises me that no charges were ever brought against them...maybe it's me but the whole thing stinks

In contrast little Shannon's mum has had her life dragged through the press and constant references made to the totally irrellevent fact that her kids have different dads. People will always misplace judgement and jump on their high horses about someone but lets just hope all critisism aside these kids get found. God bless em
Missie 1
I've always found it very odd that the McCanns were never charged with at least some sort of neglect. That is exactly what they are guilty of! Especially when there was a babysitting service available for them to use. If the situation was turned around and it was Shannon that went missing in the same situation as Madeline the other children would have probably been removed and the mother facing lord knows what charges. In my mind, a family holiday is just that, you do things as a family. The fact remains that there are still two young girls, and many more children and young people missing that need to be found. I can't imagine what must be going through the minds of thier parents and families.

COMPO 54
I've always found it very odd that the McCanns were never charged with at least some sort of neglect. That is exactly what they are guilty of! Especially when there was a babysitting service available for them to use. If the situation was turned around and it was Shannon that went missing in the same situation as Madeline the other children would have probably been removed and the mother facing lord knows what charges. In england and wales, the McCann's WOULD have faced child neglect charges, however the law in Portugal doesn't have such an offence (well they probably do but it wouldn't fit the circumstances of her dissappearance) in england and wales you would be facing arrest, and possible charges for child neglect for leaving the kids un-supervised and rightly so,social services and the local police child protection teams have met regarding the McCann's in this country, but their in-eptitutde was abroad not here, so there is nothing tehy can do! if Shannon had gone missing whilst mum and stepdad were down the pub then quiet rightly they would have been done for the same. It is very sad that the media seemed to love Maddie yet seem indifferent to Shannon. The police however in west yorkshire are taking it very seriously have a look at the shannon website http://www.helpfindshannon.org.uk/ Its the biggest investigation west yorkshire police have had since the ripper enquiries, and the website set up by a family friend is very supportive of the local old bill this feeds back to the government and media, they both seem to like the McCanns and dislike the family of Shannon, why i dont know, the only obvious thing is the class, however it could also be the age thing? Whatever i hope they both come home safe and well, but therealist that i am knows they are both probably dead

COMPO 54
s1 the children and young persons act 1933 triable either way upto 10 years on indictment, 6months and a fine if summarrily hearing if any person who has attained the age of 16years and has responsibility for any child or young person under that age, willfully assaults,ill-treats,neglects,abandons or exposes him, or causes him to be assaulted,ill-treated,neglected,abandonded or exposed , in a manner likely to cause him unnecessary suffering or injury to health...................that person shall be guilty of a misdemeanour the above from a current blackstones law book! As you can see the McCann's would have been in trouble if they had acted the way they did in portugal at home, however i dont know what the law is in portugal. Whatever happened to Maddie was there fault and i wish they could/would/had been charged with the above. edited to add the way that it would be dealt with (magistrates or crown court) and the punishment bestowed would have been the maximum in the McCann's case as the child actually suffered, the lesser dealing are usually where the child May/could have suffered but didn't or only minorly Edited March 14, 2008 by COMPO
