zap 4
whilst i have sympathy for the mcganns i still find it hard to come to terms with why they chose not to have the babysitting service and that the kids were raised by the nanny??? im not sure but i think it was 2 days after her disappearance they were out walking down the beach for the cameras WITHOUT the other kids!!!! im sorry but if 1 of mine was missing my others wouldnt be parted from me for a sec!!!! def a class divide here !!! may all missing kids be found safe and sound xxx i,m with you on that one my misses said i was heartless saying that but its a fact if my kid went missing the rest would never be out of my sight ,and spot on bill lets find both these girls
Andrea 2
I never considered this may be about class until you mentioned it, but now i think you may be right. Unfortunately the police do sometimes think that children from working class backgrounds are likely to have run away so disappearances of these children seem to be dealt with as a lower priority than a child from an affluent family. The media is also partly to blame, they tend to report on stories that will cause most of a stir. In this case, the McCann’s where very ‘visible’ and because at one point they were considered suspect's, it made a great story. Alas, many children go missing every year in this country and are rarely commented on, mainly because of the suspicions they have "just run away", and the result is, little or no media coverage. A young working class girl disappeared from a town not far from me a few years ago, it was mentioned in the media once or twice. She was later found murdered by a youth who lived close by. Apart from around the area she lived, i bet no one else knew about it. Every child who goes missing, regardless of the suspicions the police or media may have, deserve to have ever tool available, to find them.
shepp 2,285
I hope this poor girl is found alive. Just one thing, it's a bit of an insult to working class people to label her parents working class.
Andrea 2
I hope this poor girl is found alive.Just one thing, it's a bit of an insult to working class people to label her parents working class. Why?????? shouldn't we be proud of being working class? i know i am. And i enjoy showing people who consider themselves as being further up the class hierarchy, that I’m as good as they are. So why should anyone be ashamed or insulted about belonging to the working class? After all, Britain was built on the backs of the working class.

No you muppet, her parents are'nt working class because they don't work. Mother has six kids with five different men, does not work. Father unemployed. The polite term for them is underclass but i could think of a few others. Saying that it's not the poor kids fault what type of family she is born into.

The polite term for them is underclass but i could think of a few others. Saying that it's not the poor kids fault what type of family she is born into. I'm not a muppet and the term 'underclass' is a term coined by a sociologist, i believe it was Roundtree, while researching his theory of ‘the cycle of deprivation’. However, as yet is not a viable term, and therefore, it's no more than a social theory. so there can be no such thing as a underclass, only a working, middle and upper class. Since classes are considered fluid rather than rigid, her family would be still considered to be of a ‘working class' background. But as already stated, that’s going way of the point, and the facts are, it makes no difference whether this girl’s mother works or not, whether she has six children with several partners or not, she has lost a child, and i for one ,do not think her social or financial situation should, in any way, sway us away from that. mavphill 0
There is always a rush to look for "blame" when it comes to these issues. The police the media and society in general are usualy targeted. Some blame the Mcanns for leaving their daugther alone, some say the young girl in Yorkshire should of been met when finishing school. Are WE all perfect?

Geoff.C 0
Lets not forget this childs still missing Yes, well said Kay. What bit I have been able to glean from the odd news item, the police are no nearer finding her either. They may have info which is not being published, due to having a suspect, but that is supposition or maybe wishful thinking. I would not sleep if it were my daughter. It was featured on the one show tonight, and the fact theres been little media interest , unlike the Mcann child, any child who is missing from home needs finding regardless ffs she is only 9 a baby
