Patience Grasshopper!......Let the wee tyke grow and get some strength in his bones

For low jumps/hops like a foot try putting him in a large basket or box and he'll soon learn. Personally I wouldn't bother, it will come to him when he's ready.

start small with a tad food in yer hand and get some one to hold him back 5/6ft from the obstacle and just call him each time he comes to you give him a reward and build up from Thar this method works for me.never had a dog that canny jump after a bit of training .

For some reason Whippets and Whippet crosse's seem reluctant to jump fence's and obstacles, and will go to great lengths to detour around them.I would suggest starting small maybe only 12-18 inches, and if possible make the dog have to jump to get to you or a reward, once they start its plain sailing, its the initial jumps that they refuse to do.

Most dogs will jump for the sheer fun of it............treat it as a game and start them off low........and gradually build up the height. Don't push a young dog too hard too soon..........as muscles that are not fully developed can sometimes get damaged if coming down from a height.

Mine have responded to watching older/more experienced dogs. Also find they prefer to jump solid objects rather than wire fences (regardless of height). If they eventually clear something after a few attempts i concntrate on that to boost their confidence, rather than continually failing at new obstacles all the time.

GRUB usually helps too

i start mine off by getin them over a log about 1 foot high when they abou 4 months old. move up then when they jumpin that heigh with ease. if hes 7,8 month id try and get a board of ply. put it solid down a path or lane about 3 foot high and get a jumping dog over it 1st then when he sees tha dog go over it u jump over and call him. i expect hell put his 2 front feet up 1st have a few looks then jump. henn prob hesitate first i did it yesterday with my cousins dog. i lost a dog 6 weeks ago by jumping a 7 bar agte and gettin stuck on it and hia weight went over with him an is snapped his wrist. if he didnt break a bone he would of only learned to jumo higher. hes jumped alot higher than tha even the same night he did it, it was jus like he coudlnt be arsed. im up your way tomorro hunting
