MINNIE 4
HOW DOES THE SALUKI RUN MATE DOES HE WAIT FOR AN OPERTUNATY OR IS HE STRAIGHT UP AND AT THEM. THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE I HAD A SALUKI/WHIPPET/GREY BITCH. AND SOME NIGHTS SHE WOULD TRY AND BUST THEM STRAIGHT AWAY THEN ON ANOTHER NIGHT JUST MORE OR LESS FOLLOW THEM AND WAIT FOR AN OPPERTUNITY TO ARISE. Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
Thanks for the comments Well done, must be nippy for a saluki. What are sowns? She only 23" so she pretty nippy, saying that I see no real difference between any of my Salukis speed compared to our lurchers just more stamina. Sowns or sowings are planted up fields ie wheat barley etc. on my ground I only have 2 winter crops the rest have been plough all winter. She's really an up and at them bitch, she all over them from the start spinning them usually taken them by overtaken and striking to the side, this way if she misses the strike she's between the rabbit an field edge in a position box the rabbit from cover. My two male salukis will tend to follow and wait that tiny wee bit more for an opportunity due to there size (27"). I'll have get my O/H to have a go videoing her again, we tried before but it was'nt very successful. Quote Link to post
Guest joe ox
It looks stoney how are the dogs feet, no injurys? I had a bull x bitch about the height of your bitch I could run her without problem where big heavier dogs used to pick foot injurys up on the first runs! Quote Link to post
MINNIE 4
LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING A VIDEO OF HER MATE IF IT TURNS OUT OK. WE TRIED VIDEOING A LAMPING SESSION LAST SUNDAY NIGHT AND THAT DID NOT TURN OUT TO WELL EITHER. Quote Link to post

Meerihunter 7
Thanks for the comments Joe, thats my better running ground lol, but like poacher says feet don't come much better than Saluki so no real problems (touch wood). Your right about larger heavier dogs, they are all ways going suffer more, coat type make a difference as well. A good covering of the hocks and pasterns saves them alot of damage from stones and dry clay ground. My black and white saluki has a very thick coat which is especially thick between his pads and on the hocks and pasterns he can run over anything without getting cut up. My first Saluki was extremely hard wearing I remember him coursing a fox over frozen extremely rough clay plough I could hardly walk on it yet he suffered no problems. I used to run him on the pit heaps in northumberland real harsh ground also. Quote Link to post

Ameerah's Pedigree Mine have all been real fast coming on killing rabbits by 6 months old on walks, I'm not sure why your Storm has been like so slow at coming on. I'd have him up here for a few months if I had room, I'm confident he would come on well. Quote Link to post
