The total for the day was 86.

Towards the end of the day the dog was getting tired, and started to carry around the dead rats. I had to take them off her because she was not paying enough attention to the ones which were running about!

The last shed we did netted just under 200 in 2 hours. I had to stop early because the dog had a nasty cut on her leg, and I didn't want it getting infected.

Its a good way of reducing the numbers while the birds are out, then I can crack on with baiting. The birds go out at 75 weeks, so it'll be another year before I get another crack at that particular shed.

She's a cracking little dog for it; very fast. My last little bitch was a legend, this ones shaping into a bit of a star herself!

Thanks to fish for popping down in the afternoon to get some snaps. If there is anyone in the Wiltshire/Somerset/Dorset area who wants to give their terriers a bit of action, PM me, and we'll sort something out when the next shed goes out.

Not meaning to highjack your post, but is there a way of stopping them holding on to the dead ones? The reason I am asking is a mate of mine has a patterdale bitch and she doesn't let go of the dead ones and misses the ones still running around, even if she's fresh and not tired

I was wondering if letting her hunt with a couple more terriers would stop her hanging on? Maybe get jealous of what the others are catching, if you know what I mean.

Any thoughts? Cheers Mike

I reckon going out in a group will do little good, they tend to hang onto the rat they have even more when there are more dogs about, the best way I have found is to gather half a dozen or so up, and put them in an enclosed space with the one dog, I used a wheelie bin, but that was a bit too tight, they will soon lose interest in the dead rat in their mouth when there is another 5 or so squealing round there legs !
