if you had a mink you wouldnt have that problem , i heard quite recently that they drag the rabbit out for you , then skin it , gut it and cook it

honestly, I cant belive some peoples questions on here :wallbash:

your asking for "disadvantages of a muzzle, whats the advantages then, apart from killing underground, defeats the point of rabbiting in my book, underground or overground the rabbit loses(felt a womble song coming on there)

if you cant afford a locator just yet, save up and start ferreting again after the summer,

Feed your ferret up well the night before. It might not stop your ferret killing underground, so you might lose a few rabbits, but at least that way there's less chance of it laying up after a kill. There seems to be a big thing on here about locators being essential, you don't NEED them, but after using one I'd definalely recommend one. You'll get a lot more rabbits.

i had a old muzzle somwhere , but not as old as the ones your are speaking about kay , the old men here swore by them when they where ferreting but , they did not spend anytime time with there ferrets and they led a pretty poor life :( . yeh muzzle i have is a taperred brass ring with a threaded bolt that goes behind the main teeth , i sure as hell wouldnt want it on my jaws , so it wont be goin near my ferret

well, the one i have is much less awkward, its kinda like a dog muzzle, just leather straps which are kinda wrapped round it's face and secured behind its ears. Mine has even tried it on and he doesn't really seem to mind it, he was a bit puzzled at first, but got used to it after like 5 minuits.

why dont you have some one tie your hands and feet together and then you try to defend yourself ,cos putting a muzzle on a ferret you have taken away its way to defend its self,i thought this practice of ferreting went out years ago :wallbash:

go the full hog fella get some bells for your ferrets too...

And train them to voice command...

Or you could save your self a world of shit and buy a collar and box

There is no way I would ever use a muzzle on any of my ferrets. In days gone by it may have been the best way forward without the use of locator collars. Times have changed though. No offence intended to the person asking the question at the start of the thread mind - everyone needs to learn somewhere.

Training to a voice commands exactly what do do want to do , or the rattle of your keys, whistle etc , makes life easier when trying to locate a ferret thats gone awol in the garden or the house for that matter

Well said Stubby!...I've just discovered this fecking ridiculous topic and I can't believe what I'm reading  ...

A muzzle would not stop the ferret staying down and worrying the rabbit so you would possibly still have to dig if you were impatient.

Maybe I'm over suspicious but!...When a new member comes on and asks strange or provocative questions I wonder if there's a hidden agender,...if you get my drift! :hmm:

Particularly when they have a name like kill_that_rabbit, or whatever it is. I might be wrong, it could just be that he's new to the game and a bit naive. If that's the case, then I apologise, but it certainly seems fishy to me, and at the very least it makes our entire community look a bit dimwitted.
