trappa 518
Had a look out to a spot about half an hours drive from me today. Was by myself so decided instead of netting up i would have some fun with my .410. Really enjoyed it. My 2 ferrets -albino and polecat jills worked brilliantly- first bolting a couple of young, both dropped by the gun. Went to 3 warrens in all and walked a long hedge riddled with holes. Total of 5 rabbits killed, 1 pricked , and quite a few blatant misses . I usually take the 12 bore shooting rabbits and really missed that second shot thats available, especially on the pricked rabbit that got away- i guess i will have to get some more practice in! Anyway i enjoyed it, the ferrets got a nice bit of excercise and farmer giles is a few rabbits less- Everyones happy! Quote Link to post
olliedakennard 0
SOunds good fun if you are on youre own and knowone is around but if there is people around then i find it really hard to get a clear and safe shot of thats why we use nets and dogs. But sounds fun anyway unlucky bout the pricked one Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
sounds good, what do u mean by pricked?? sorry still learning... Quote Link to post
olliedakennard 0
He means that when he shot the rabbit it didnt kill it, it wounded it but the rabbit got away its like pricking youself with a needle rather than cutting yourself with a knife. Understand??? Quote Link to post
richie 1
trappa.... what sort of .410 set-up have you got ? i use to have a single shot hushpower pedretti .410 the two problems were it was only a one shot & it was a bit of a bollock ache when you had to re-load in a hurry, especially straight after a shot was taken as the cartridge seemed to swell up & a bit of effort had to be used in getting it out. i ended up getting rid of that & got myself a .410 mossberg, 3 shot pump with hushpower attached.. always handy when more than a couple of shots are needed. it never misses a beat. i use 3" magnums. very quiet, & comes in handy when shooting early in the morning or late at night when you want to keep the noise to a minimum. trappa 518
Richie- im having them same problems. Its a one shot .410 im using with no ejector so if i need 2 shots i need to be fast to break, pull the cart, replace it and shoot again. Your gun looks spot-on, very smart indeed, exactly what i would treat myself to if funds allowed. Inan, if that last post is a dig at me, dont be an ar*e, i always try to dispatch animals quickly and have the upmost respect for my quarry. I dont know your history but if youve never shot a pigeon or a pheasant without winging it or youve never shot a rabbit thats managed to get to a hole before you reached it your either the only hunter in the world to do so, and i take my hat off to you, or your a "keyboard" hunter. If it wasnt a dig then i apologise for my outburst. Quote Link to post
richie 1
i know how you feel with the one shot ! with the pump it cycles nigh on as fast as a semi. especially as its only a .410 the kick back is none existant so the next shot can be pulled straight away as the aim doesnt really change " i hope that makes sense ".. like when youre firing a 12g semi the kick can be quite hard & the shotty tends to go high after each shot so time is taken to get aim again.
