dogs-n-natives 1,182
Its funny this subject is on as Ive got a patterdale/cocker cross, bred her myself for fox and rabbit shooting/drives/picking up etc... shes been mounting all of my dogs since she was a pup, shes only 10 months old now! But shes nice natured and im sure she isnt trying to dominate them. I actually reckon she gets a kick out of it She will even get on top of the lurcher's back when he's lying down, grip on and give it some! The lurcher will stand up with her still attached! Cant get my head round it either. Well ive been trying to stop her recently as shes been tagging along, starting a bit of work and it just looks wrong although the other dogs dont seem too bothered, and it usually gets everyone laughing!! Guest Ditch_Shitter
ditchy if you watch it happening and do nothing to stop it you must be as weired as the fecking dog I watch my Dogs do a lot of things, mate. Always have. And maybe that's the key word with me? I watch them. They live with me. Not in a kennel at the end of the yard. I get to Watch their every nuance and know all their dirty little secrets. Big Brother is most certainly watching them ~ and never gives any of them half a chance to break My rules, which They all know. None of my Dogs ever has to think for a split second to know who's god around here. Though ye'll find my ways covered by niether Dunbar nor Woodhouse. Anyway; Weird? For studying my Dogs? Where does one draw that line then? One shouldn't pick up their shit, because it's 'not nice' to deal with? Shouldn't glance at it for signs of the Dogs condition, because That's down right 'sick'? Sorry, but I just had this fleeting image of two Dogs mating, and you rushing to pull a curtain round the proceedings! No, shit does indeed happen. But I find that generally kicks off when I'm not watching them. That's why I seperate them when I have to leave them alone.
FPO 0
Now I am worried!! my 18 mth girl has just recently developed the inclination to try and Hump Us Grabs our legs with her front legs quite persistantly! Thank goodness she hasnt tried it with anyone else yet! tends to happen when she gets over excited and is having a rough and tumble. There is no way our older girl would tolerate her humping, maybe she is trying the dominance thing on us?? Having said which they both know that they are in charge so nothing to prove as such!! Guest longslip
Just 'Dominance' ~ though I'd only use that particuler term because people 'understand' it easiest. Time was, before western human society hit the slide into regression, it was considered the Ulimate, in a fight, to pin the other guy to the ground. Simply show him and all that ye'd Over Powered him. Hence the thing in wrestling matches, where one guy pins the other and he Submits. (Ok, if it was Really vile? Spit in the c***s face. Then Everyone knew ye had him well and truly Owned!) But no need to use his f*cking head as a rugby ball. Dogs have simply never lost that decorum. Bitch 'mounts' bitch. Bitch 'mounts' Dog. Dog 'mounts' Dog ~ and all hell doesn't break out? It's simply an act of Reinforcement of the status quo. What they Already have figured out to be a given. That's why I don't personally agree it's to do with " Dominance ". Let me illustrate this for ye, better: I have a bitch here who is my personal little sweetheart. Sleeps in my arms and gets the best of everything. All my Dogs damn soon come to recognise this. Thus she was able to bowl over and 'dominate' my old Bull 'n Terrier, who could easily have killed her dead. Oh sure, he'd Scream! Screamed blue f*cking murder in protest! But he wouldn't ever have dreamed of touching a hair on her. He knew she was sacrosanct. She'd 'mount' him too. Just because she knew she could. She's top of the heap. Now I have a new, male Dog here. She's at it with him too "!". She 'mounts' him and 'fights' him. And he's Always a perfect gentleman and falls over I never taught him that. Maybe it's a pheremone like thing? But, have ye spotted the one thing I Don't do here? I Never, directly, interfere myself. Because the moment we start telling two perfectly happy Dogs to Stop what ever they're doing, perfectly happily, we're probably messing with their own game. One they're Way ahead of us on. They know what the score is. Leave them to it. Start f*cking with Their self made rules and that's where shit happens faster than ever Ditch.....That answered it for me
