The Sporting Agent 0
I was just wondering if anyone here had been on any of their short courses in shoot managent, shooting assistant (loader), perst control, shotgun coaching etc and what you thought of them? I know the courses are regognised and awarded by LANTRA, just wanted an opinion on the courses themselves? Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
if there lantra based they'll be the same nation wide......i've done the quadbike course, wouldn't say i learnt much, just got a piece of paper saying i'm not a prick now!!! thats all it really is!! Got the brushcutter one and that was a bit better but again common sense, you do need qualifications to get work for insurance purposes but it won't really teach you much!! Quote Link to post
Missie 1
Chichester (Brinsbury) College isn't as good a college as it used to be. 20 or so years ago Brinsbury was one of the leading agri colleges in the country but its not that anymore. I know one or two people that have done Gamekeeping there and I have done an Equine course but if I could've relocated i'd have gone to Sparsholt. Sparsholt and Plumpton are far better agri colleges that Brinsbury in my opinion. Quote Link to post

To be honest What Dicky boy (and MISSIE)says has a lot of truth in it.The qualifications come with Certificates that indicate to Officialdom&"Those it may concern" that you are not a total Milman and can be trusted with chemicals ,chainsaws, traps ,machine-guns ..etc .I've actually done some of the Brinsbury courses and found that the main problem was pinning em down to firm dates when the courses were going to run instead of ," you're on the waiting list for sometime in March orApril".In other words theInstructor is making too much dosh with his day-job at the moment. The chainsaw course was the most worthwhile and despite my ,"I've used a saw for thirty years",attitude ,I did learn a lot .Also got a laminated card that ,to para-phrase Dicky boy ,not only proves I'm not a pr*ck any more but infers a level of safety for the general publics' private parts. Some of the courses act like a little forum between students and tutor and this exchange of ideas can be as beneficial as the required subject matter. I'm actually on aBrinsbury LANTRA course in a couple o weeks ...Hopefully to learn more about a subject I'm involved in on a daily basis but If I learn nothing at least I get the badge!..
