jasper65 6
The duran/leonard/hagler/hearns fights was probably my favorite era in boxing..... you will like this one jasper, who was the only man to beat them all ?...Sugar ray Leonard Fair enough he lost the first duran fight but those early and mid ,s fights were for me when boxing was at a peak as a sport, certainly in my life time anyway....also holmes/cooney was i think 82...hagler/hearns was 85...wee barry was at the top....whats your favorite era lads ? The first fight he had with Hearns when he got the detached retina was a classic! behind on points but stopping him in round 14 was a classic! I must admit he had a few split decision in his favour includeing one against Hearns which I felt was a bit dodgy but as a overall boxing machine who loved to dazzle he was something else... The 's have to go down as a exciting time in the boxing calendar. the Heavyweight division was alive again and boy was there some fighters in the lower weight divisions, at this time I would get up earley hours of the morning to listen to fights on the radio and always missed everything to watch a big fight on the telly . do you remember a fighter back then called Pernel Whitaker? I can't remember what weight he was fighting at but I enjoyed watching him.... Boy does this sport need a explosive star again now! expecially in the heavyweight division , I'll be honest at the moment I have lost a bit of Interest and havn't got a clue who's fighting who anymore .... gnasher16 30,112
Edited to add,I thought Kirk was dead.after being thrown from a balcony, however my mate reckons he's alive and well and living back in Nottingham.Apologies if i have made a huge blunder. Think your find he is a gonner bill....i was told he overdosed on a bit of everything in the north of england somewhere.....im not stating a fact mind you its just what i was told, nobody seems to know which kind of sums up the sadness of the man and his career.....when you met him did you understand a word he said, funny as fxxk some of his post fight interviews Jasp pernell whittaker ( sweet pea i believe they called him ? )...was a great little fighter, was robbed in my opinion of 2 decisions in big fights with chavez and de lahoya and never got a rematch with either which says a lot. Just found this of Pernell Whitaker in a nice polished performance against Ramirez! Ramirez walks on to everything and still kept going...

What about Don "The Cobra" Curry, "Marvellous" Marvin Hagler, "Sugar" Ray Leonard and John "The Beast" Magabe, all around at the same time and in the same weight divisions? Don Curry was awesome, but one day he met a lad called Lloyd Honeyghan and he was never the same after Note the common denominator in the british names mentioned above....mickey duff...he had Lloyd honeyghan and john mugabe at a time when yanks didnt take fights with brits too easily, particularly top names like don curry and hagler, but still duff got them the fights....he also got cornelius boza edwards a fight with camacho in the same era....not many people liked old mickey duff...but he could certainly get the big fights. Duran was admired by many, but was apparently a nasty bit of work out of the ring...inside it he he lost easily to all the other big 3 apart from the first leonard fight, probably his best fight in my opinion was beating iran barklay at about 105 years old

olliedakennard 0
He tries to get a good punch to much he needs to do alot more little jabs then a few big ones. And he never covers his face. Hes to cocky for my liking.
