Do you guys really rate Lewis that highly? The problem was, Lewis was made to look better by the fact that there was a serious lack of quality in his division at his time. In his last fight against Klitchko, I seriously think, had the fight not been stopped on cuts, he'd have lost. He looked knackered at the end of that fight, the way he was slumping down on to his stool at the end of the rounds, Klitchko looked like he was just warming up.

And finaly, just to put the cat among the racing pigeons, Tyson would have beaten Lewis if the pair had met both in their prime but that's just my humble opinion.

Malt,Lewis was not overated,he was a superb boxer. The man was huge, had great handspeed, and devastating power. As far as i'm concerned he ranks as one of the all time great heavyweights.I remeber when he started how the media said he had no power, then he fought Razor Ruddock.:laugh:

You're probably right Bill, maybe I just didn't like his style or something! I still think though, the heavy weight division wasn't that great when Lewis was around, but then, it's even worse now.......

Nasseem was vey good, but not one of the greats, his promoters were very clever he never ever fought anyone that could be a serious threat, a shame as Nasseem could have been a legend, Tyson (not as he was in his last round of fights) but as he was in his prime was an animal, he deserved the belts he got during that era, for me Ali turned out to be the legend his fast stinging punches were so deceptive, a thinking boxer, and i still dont know how he laid back on the ropes and soaked up all those rounds of body punches to wear an opponent out, ive never seen anyone able to do that then when his opponent is tired out come back out boxing !!!

who would have predicted this one...

The duran/leonard/hagler/hearns fights was probably my favorite era in boxing..... you will like this one jasper, who was the only man to beat them all ?...Sugar ray Leonard

Fair enough he lost the first duran fight but those early and mid 80,s fights were for me when boxing was at a peak as a sport, certainly in my life time anyway....also holmes/cooney was i think 82...hagler/hearns was 85...wee barry was at the top....whats your favorite era lads ?

AGREE with gnasher that era was the best ive seen, but often a very good boxer cant handle a certain style thats how some we call great didnt look so good against what we thought were inferior men, another three fights i enjoyed were ali v norton.oh nearly forgot most of the john the beast mugabi fights

leonard come on he dint beat hagler made donny lanood come down to super middale weight to fight for the light heavly weight title never gave bernittes a return after stoping him with seconds to go wait to hagler to go past he sell by date :no::no::no::censored::censored: a good debait thou :boxing::boxing::boxing::boxing:

In my opinion thats what made leonard special, the way he could adapt to any style, from a workhorse like hagler or duran to a power puncher like hearns...leonard always found a way to win....didnt beat hagler ? personally i gave hagler about 3 rounds at most....hagler was hot favorite to win that fight after leonard being out the ring a few years....the lalonde fight was at light heavy but also for the vacant super middle leonard who started as a welter was fighting a full blooded light heavy....a very limited fighter but a world champ nonetheless and got up off the canvas twice if i remember right.for me leonard dominated at a time when the competition was top class and he won all the big fights he had..the first leonard/hearns fight was a classic if anyone knows how to post a clip of that...

Thats right Gnash,i remember watching an interview Steve Bunce did with him.Steve had to go around a Hackney housing estate to find him, then bought him breakfast, and a carry out from the off licence before doing the interview on a park bench:no: I remember meeting Kirkland at an Errol Christie fight in the 80's he was such a nice bloke, nothing like his boxing persona.A sad loss to boxing in my oppinion. :(

Edited to add,I thought Kirk was dead.after being thrown from a balcony, however my mate reckons he's alive and well and living back in Nottingham.Apologies if i have made a huge blunder.
