Guest pip
Hello, I live in Guernsey and had never until recently heard of the Patterdale, I am trying to get some info on them if anyone can help, I wouldnt mind getting myself one in the future, I already have a weimaraner, staffy and Jack, they all get on fine but I cant really find any info on a decent respected breeder of these fine little dogs. Im in no hurry but when and if I feel the time is right id like to feel comfortable in the knowledge that I have been shown in the right direction, I know they arent kc recognised as yet but there must be some Patterdale enthusiasts that try to keep decent lines and breed to type? They are a lovely looking dog and seem full of life If you are in no hurry i know where their will be a litter of BRIAN NUTTAL patterdales true workers or you can have Brians no.The book you may be interested in is called THE FELL TERRIER by Brian Plumber probably the best book he ever wrote.Brian N., is getting on a bit now but is a true gent and his dogs are the BEST. PM me if interested.(rossle only) Para 1 you are friends with Nuttal? You willing to sell a litter of terriers to guernsey that willnever see a fox?You keep blacks ypourself? Something doesn t add up if you care for the future of working blacks/coloured terriers why would you sell them to a pet homes?Oh and Rossle i don t mean to offend but a good dog out of good working lines will normally need work once matured so not the best pet IMO,and Nuttal will sell to anyone so don t get that privilaged feeling for being put in contact with such a famous dealer. rossle 0
I DON T KNOW OF ANY REPUTABLE TERRIER MAN WHO WORKS AND TRIES TO MAINTAIN A DECENT LINE WHO WOULD GIVE/SELL DOG THATS NOT GOING TO BE WORKED Ok Nuttal will sell to anyone so don t get that privilaged feeling for being put in contact with such a famous dealer. So hes not reputable then? Quote Link to post
Guest pip
1. He s a dealer 2.He s not reputable NOW IMO as he s destroyed all his good work for £££££. 3.I really don t care what you buy,im sure you ll come from his yard with an excellant "little"dog,BUT you will pay for it i reckon. 4.That 1st quote of mine Nuttal is no longer in the same league as the people im describing. rossle 0
What is the going rate for these fine little dogs then, I dont have a clue, there are other breeds I have looked in to that I wouldnt mind having but for one reason or another they just wouldnt be suitable for me, like a Boerboel, my parents have Rhodesian Ridgebacks and have done for over 20 years and these were quite similar looking dogs, I looked in to it and although they arent kc registered any pup you look at will be over a grand!! My girlfriend has a weimaraner bitch that she shows, the father of the dog was not only a working champ but show champ as well, so I dont see how being kc registered would ruin the breed but my point here is, she paid about £600 for a good working and showing dog but there are people charging didiculous amounts for dogs that arent recognised as breeds and as such a litter could just be mongrels. Also, kc registered breeders, good ones, will get their dogs dna tested and hipscored, that way you get a little assurance that the dog you buy has got a relatively healthy future ahead, whereas there are tons of staffy "breeders" just banging Two big dogs together that are probably well oversized and will end up with bad hips and all other ailments because people will pay for anything Edited March 6, 2008 by rossle Quote Link to post
