wHEN YOU SAY BREED TO TYPE?WHAT DO YOU MEAN?IMJUST CURIOUS IS IT FOR PET OR WORK?AND WHAT TYPE OF WORK? IF YOUR NOT FUSSY THERES PLENTY OF BREEDERS OUT THERE WHO UNFORTUNATELY AREN T FUSSY EITHER WHO THEY SELL THE DOGS TOO AND WHAT THEY USE THEM FOR OR PLAN TO BREED THEM TO.ARE THERE FOX WHERE YOU LIVE? :)

No fox's here, loads of rats, thats about it.

to be perfectly honest I dont work our dogs, my girlfriend shows the weimaraner and staff and I got the Jack as a companion.

I just liked the look of the patterdale and after reading about them I registered here where people who would have known about them could give me an idea of where to buy a good reprasntative of the breed from. Ive seen loads of ads for litters but most are cross's, I even saw this http://www.ukclassifieds.co.uk/patterdale_...le-o422545.html

So how do the unreputable breeders get hold of em then?

Im sure someone that has a litter wouldnt mind seeing a pup going to a decent home even though it wont be encountering any foxes

Also im pretty sure it would be the first on Guernsey so at least theyd hold that prestigious honour

I have a staff that doesnt bait bulls or pit fight and a weimaraner that doesnt track boar, why not have a Patterdale that doesnt hunt foxes?

in order to keep as tight a gene pool of grafters as is possible,in 10 years guernsey will be full of untested blackuns, next thing you know there ll be a kc reg patterdale, beginning of the end.If i was you rossle i would buy a show dog or kc lakie or russel as they lldo the same job

Nah mate, im not in to breeding them, I just like the dog, id just like to experience having one as a pet.

If you were worried about them being kc regsitered and me breeding them, that could happen whether I get one or not.

Also, how does having a standard effect your working dogs? You can keep them seperate from any show dogs surely, just create a working pedigree, where you have the best working dogs breeding with other good workers, just like show dogs have pedigrees where you can see their family history of champions.

At least then even just working dogs, everyone would know where they stand

Do Patterdales do any working competitions where you could have champions marked down on a working pedigree?

yOU COULD GET A GOOD PET FROM A FAILED EARTHDOG.

THE WORST THING POSSIBLY COULD HAPPEN TO COLOURED TERRIERS IS A KENNEL CLUB,IF ONLY THE WORLD WAS HONEST THEN YOUR IDEA WOULD BE A POSSIBILITY BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE HENCE THE SITUATION THE TERRIER WORLD IS IN :(

Hello, I live in Guernsey and had never until recently heard of the Patterdale, I am trying to get some info on them if anyone can help, I wouldnt mind getting myself one in the future, I already have a weimaraner, staffy and Jack, they all get on fine but I cant really find any info on a decent respected breeder of these fine little dogs.

Im in no hurry but when and if I feel the time is right id like to feel comfortable in the knowledge that I have been shown in the right direction, I know they arent kc recognised as yet but there must be some Patterdale enthusiasts that try to keep decent lines and breed to type?

They are a lovely looking dog and seem full of life

If you are in no hurry i know where their will be a litter of BRIAN NUTTAL patterdales true workers or you can have Brians no.The book you may be interested in is called THE FELL TERRIER by Brian Plumber probably the best book he ever wrote.Brian N., is getting on a bit now but is a true gent and his dogs are the BEST. PM me if interested.(rossle only)

just a thought isnt this how the bedlington terrier nearly got f****d up first comes the kc then shows then crufts before you know it there are only a handfull of descent dogs left kept by true terrier men trying to keep them workers, instead of giving them ponsy hair cuts and peraiding them around rings with people critasizing hunting when in fact if it wasnt for hunting they wouldnt be there (muppets)
