Stuck in the Mud

Recommended Posts

Had another look out with Floyd at the weekend, in a bid to mop up the remaining rats around the estate. We got off to a good start with the dogs marking at the first place we stopped and a couple of rats in the bag after just a few minutes

We were soon joined by the keepers son and his friend, both good company for young Floyd. Then the smoker went and broke, just at a time the dogs had started marking bits that were not possible to dig - wood piles, stone piles, holly bushes, plastic wrapped bales in the middle of a pile of brambles, you name it, the dogs were marking but we had no smoker so what was possible to dig was done

Tackling the brambles that were all over the bales, there were rats in here but it wasnt easy even when they bolted, compounded by the fact that the brambles were surrounded by dense hawthorn saplings, very prickly indeed!

we moved on to another bit, with quite a few of us squashed in the back, and for the very first time ever, Floyd's landy got stuck in the mud  the area we got stuck in was very boggy, following the previous days stormy/day night (loads of trees down too)

the lads soon got it dug and pushed out

a bit of teamwork - I had to stop in the landy to keep an eye on all the loose dogs :D so grabbed the chance of a piccie of them pushing us out.

with the smoker broken and the dogs marking the most difficult of places, the last of which was a large hollow tree where we had previously had some good sport we had to call it a day a bit earlier than we'd planned to

last mark and catch of the day was down to Floyd's Fenn, who got a nasty bite on her nose for her trouble

Hopefully the rats will be there for next time :bye:
