.22 or .17hmr?????

Recommended Posts

I will soon get my FAC through with permission to buy a .22 and .17hmr.I will only be shooting rabbits with the gun.I will only be able to buy one at first, due to me being very carefull with the cash :D so which one should i go for?.Price of the gun and ammo will play a part in my dissision.I will probably go for synthetic/stainless so which model should i get? Would i be better getting a more expensive gun second hand or a cheaper gun brand new? What size scope will be up to the job?.Thanks for any replies.Jessdale

I would go for a .22 Bruno or even better a Sako which is what ive got.A 4x40 or 3-9x40 Nikko Sterling scope will be more than good enough for what you need.

.22 Rimfire ammo is very cheap,£26 for 500.17 ammo is not cheap so that question answers itself :good:

Hard one mate, depends on what ranges your are gonna shoot at, how many rabbits on the land, is noise a factor? etc. Personally, for serious numbers of edible/saleable rabbits, it has to be the .22. For shots that have to be taken in excess of 100 yards, then its the 17 , but the ammo isnt cheap.

i will have a moderator on the ticket for both guns.Is there much difference in the noise of a silenced .22 and.17hmr?.I will be wanting to eat the rabbits that i shoot.I will be mostly shooting rabbits on the lamp. Also which is the best shooting insurance(basc,ca)etc to take out?
