donnyc 1,203
Apologies that should read .25 not .22. It's chrono'd at 81.2ft/lbs. That's reality. I can't make you believe it but the gun is 4 years old and has been run between 30 and 82 ft/lbs since it was picked up from the local firearms dealer. Thought it might be the case ..Get a decent reg on it i was getting many more shots from mine @75FTLBS.My mate gets 60 shots at 60FTLBS out of his hand built gun with his own backfilling reg .. Deker 3,478
what are you hunting with a 30ftlber .harrier jump jets? Nooo, tricky rabbits that have been messed with by amateurs before the land owners realise they need to get a pro in and sort their problems out for them at great expense, and where my rimmys are too likely to cause damage or harm by ricochet. It will be just yet another tool of my trade to enable me to offer customers a holistic approach to an age old problem. As all the above and air rifle pellets are a lot cheaper than .17hmr or 22 I done a job the other day shot 56 rabbits with my 22 if I had my rifle then would have cost me a lot less You are a little mistaken, the heavy and High power rated air rifle pellets are not only very expensive, but they are usually pretty hard to find, add to that the cost of a FAC, PCP and the few shots per charge, then compare that with a brand new .22lr for around £200 and subs sonic ammo available just over £3.00 per hundred and not having to worry about running out of air half way through a shoot. Also accuracy wise a sub sonic rimmy will beat your 80ft air rifle. Quote Link to post

Chris I'm fascinated, I know a handful of people running air rifles over 40ft lb but I don't actually know of anyone running anything at 80ft lb....help me out here, what is it used for and why?? Deker 3,478
Bought a Daystate Airanger yesterday, it is running at 30 ft/lbs, apparently because i have not gone power mad this should mean i have a wider choice of pellets that will group well and not deform in the barrel, so the question is, anyone with relevant knowledge of air rifles running at this power level got any help on brands of quality pellets worth me trying, rather than me buying lots on a trial and error basis. Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards MT. For hunting between 20-30ft lb I would suggest Air Arms Field, for 30-40ft lb Bisley Magnum, you are right in the middle..tight call! Quote Link to post
C3PO 118
AA Field produced plate-sized groupings in my Rapid @ 30ft/lbs. Getting on v well with HW Magnums. Quote Link to post
SharpShooter14 0
Try those big fat logun ones, think they're called penetrators? or Bisley magnums Quote Link to post
zebedee321 0
i use bisley magnums i my AA s410k that runs about 34 ft lbs they group well and leave the barrel perfectly!!!!! john Quote Link to post
Sundayratter 0
If it is any help I use a 24ft/lb BSA super ten and the best pellets I have tried are the Acupels, they certainly have enough killing power at 60 to 70 yds. Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Tried a couple of sorts through the crony this afternoon, Bisley Magnums were running at 29 ft/lbs, AA Fields were runing at 24 ft/lbs, wanted to try the Eley Mags but although they fit the magazine they dont go into the barrel. Obviously power means nothing without accuracy so will try the other sorts i have for energy output and then when i have a day that is still, and i am not snowed under with work i will test them all at varying ranges on targets for grouping and down range accuracy, not forgetting trajectory between 20-60 yds. Dont hold your breath, as getting time for a day off and weather being suitable might just happen before Haleys comet comes around again. Quote Link to post

Bit surprised the Bisley Magnum and AA field are quite so different! The AA actually come in different sizes, used to be 5.5mm but no longer, now available in 5.51mm and 5.52mm, take a look underneath tin, sticker will say which. My barrel is too tight for 5.52 and power drops, get more power and better results with 5.51mm. AA field and Bisley Magnum only give me about 0.5ft lb difference. Mine runs at 26ft lb! Hi Deker, just had a quick look, the AA,s are 5.51 The only thing i am wondering is that i based the figures on the weights i found on a site selling pellets, maybe they were incorrect. The difference in pellets weight wise is quite considerable but the velocity was only about 20, ish ft per second different at the muzzle. Quote Link to post

Bisley Magnum 21.4g AA Field and Hunter 16.25g I cant remember the speed difference last time I had the chrono out but I would have thought it was more than 20ft sec! Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Deker, that is the weights i had for them. I to thought the lighter pellet should have been travelling fasrer than 20 ft/sec more than the Magnums, i will try them again this morning under more controlled conditions. Quote Link to post
James@Scarborough 0
CCI do a 35ft/lb 29grn bullet for .22 rimfire. This eliminates the need for FAC air rifles, and you can get a lot of bullets for the price of a Rapid. Quote Link to post
rob reynolds uk 3
a 30ftlb air rifle will kill any thing you point it at no need to go any higher if you do get a rimmy ..bisley magnums are the best by far for a FAC air rifle but dont think they will take 80lb pressure .. Quote Link to post
