Who is the most interesting person you have known. The one that sticks in my memory was an old poacher that lived in my village. I was warned as a kid to stay clear of him , only made him more fascinating. Mick kept running dogs all his life and taught us how to poach, although he was no angel, all the lads that knew him have nothing but respect for the guy. At his funeral my mate stood in attendance with micks two whippets .This was at micks own request. R,I.P. MICK NEVER FORGOTTEN. :victory:

Yeppers. At risk of being the first in a long and repetative line; My Dad.

I'll qualify that:

My Dad was there as I went through that stage where every question out of my mouth was " Why? ". And he never once let me down. He always knew the answer and delivered it in the matter of fact tone born of genuine and unfussed knowledge. Hence I never knew the man have to stop and consider an answer. He Knew and therefore told me. All the time adding to my own little data base of snippets of information which I've retained throughout life ~ and have seen proven true, time and time again.

He instilled in me first a love of Dogs which, looking at it, seems to characterise my entire family. It was being around with him, on a daily basis, that I became obsessed with rat destruction too. He did this as a natural side line to his own work. Of course, I saw him at it and asked " Why? " about everything he did. As always, he'd simply tell me Why. Often adding an after thought of What will happen next, and why. I well remember and cherish an incident where by one of the simple things he once explained to me, all those years ago, led me to make a stated prediction about the behaviour of a rat. Later developements proved me (my Dads teaching) so incredibly correct that I became something of a local hero there and then. A man who could truly read the very mind of a rat. Or so it seemed to others. Just another casually imparted observation, from my Dad to his five year old son. Remembered.

Just to add something to this Thread; Who, now, to this day inspires me. Who do I respect and look up to now that my Dad's long since gone? His Brother. My Uncle. A Gentleman.

I just can't add anything to that mate other than I would give all to have just one more day with my departed Dad.
