twins 0
Nearly purchased just over 5 acres of woodland suggestions of what I could do with it legally. What when can I shoot hunt or how can I make a few quid back on it. Wanted to be kinda eco friendlyas well, any suggestions well come. twins

moxy 617
If you invest a little time or money and if it will stand it thin it out a little. The logs can be sold on (if extracted at a reasonable cost), leave the rest to make habitat piles for the local wildlife,n ( check with your local council to make sure that there are no preservation/conservation,SSSI issues etc etc. I am not sure if there is much financial gain to be had from a woodland unless its from opening it up to maybe shooting days out, Paintballing or perhaps trail bikes/pony treks, (this could be dictated by your local planning office, so check first). There are grants available for footpaths to be constructed, Fencing to be erected and opening it up to the public for nature walks, but do you want everyone with a dog in your wood? There will never be enough of a financial gain to be had by this way. Its a bit of a tough one this, Think very hard as to what you want because any oversight could have repercusions. I would keep it all to myself, 5 acre of woodland, You lucky sod.

moxy 617
If you do thin it out a little, You are allowed to take out 5 cubic metres of timber per quater, without a felling licence from the forestry commission , You can then get a grant under the woodland grant scheme (WGS) to re-plant. Good luck
Waz 4,281
Not a bad book to get is Ben Laws 'The Woodland Way'. Ill be looking for some woodland in the not too distant future, round my way id be thinking of harvesting the good hardwoods, and anything not desirable would be stacked for drying for heating, 45 euro a metre this year (cut to required length). & id definately putting in false settes to encourage wildlife
