Gos 4
Where i live the fields on average are about 30-40 acres, all though there are some large fields 100 acres plus. Most of the fields are often surrounded by hedges and woodland, often with copses and coverts in the middle. I really like saluki crosses but some lack enough zip and drive to get on terms with a hare here. At the moment i have a saluki lurcher that was sired by JJ, although he has bags of pace he is not the fastest, i also have i have saluki cross which is at least 5/8 greyhound, he is only 11 months but can still stick with his quarry and has done for about 4 minutes, i think next season he will show a lot more promise and be a better dog for my area than the dog with more saluki. Anyway, i would like a dog that would have been able to kill hares pre-ban. I would like a dog that has a quick running style and really dominates its hare, something that would be capable of picking up a hare quickly in smaller fields, i think this problem could be solved easily, however i would like a dog that i could get a good few runs out of in a day so i think an element of saluki blood would be needed? I dont really like the running style of some of these fen dogs and would idealy like something a little sharper, although i have heard that some lines are quick and can kill on any sized land is this true?. I would really appreciate some sugegestions? Many thanks in advance Quote Link to post

Many thanks in advance I have a video of Lucky killing a hare on a golf course, some dogs only run as fast as they need to,but as you say some saturated saluki types have difficulty getting on terms with hares on small hedgy fields, a friend of mine is breeding his bitch this year ,she has produced a quickish bitch that can do the business quickly ,but can hang on for 3 or 4 mins if.needed. cúagusgiorraí 57
For small fields like I have where I live a good whippetxgreyhound is deadly and has such acceleration the grass is smoking in her wake! The only problem is they tend to be injury prone. If you get a whippet greyhound with a bit of collie in there or terrier to toughen them then that should be all you need. Even a brace of whippets will do the job. It has to be good ground though. Quote Link to post
