"The trap shall be used only for the purpose of killing edible dormice (glis glis)(7), grey squirrels, mice, mink, rabbits, rats, stoats and weasels.

The trap must be set in a natural or artificial tunnel which is suitable for minimising the chances of injuring or killing non-target species whilst not compromising the capture and killing of target species."

cheers bud another thing some of the mk 6's say fox so that is affectivly like a bear trap which would be ilegal wouldnt it?

Where are you looking ? Can you share this source of misinformation ?

A MK6 fenn is definitely not suitable for a fox - not designed for it, nor legal.

It will usually have 'fenn' stamped on the plate but I suppose that is no longer any guarentee - could be faked.

Other approved versions are the springer which will be marked 'springer' and the newly approved Solways traps. I think those are marked 'Solway' but not having handled one I can't be sure.

However there's a man on here somewhere who can tell you for definate ............

Hi All,

The Solway traps have nothing on the plate to identify them at the moment, although the spring, action and parts should be sound and true. The new batch will have Solway Mk4 and Solway Mk6 marked on them, we keep records of each sale so we can trace a purchase. Traps not listed on the spring traps approval order are sold as Fen (1 x N) or Vermin traps. There are also Magnum trap copies being sold (not by us) these have very poor wire forms and the spring is very crooked.

Hope this helps...

regards Andrew

Genuine Fenn traps will be stamped with the name A. FENN on the plate and sometimes with the patent number 763791 on the brass tongue. Springer traps will be similarly identified - having SPRINGER clearly stamped onto their plate. The Solway traps have no markings as such yet but I understand that this oversight will be corrected at the earliest opportunity to distinguish them from cheap imported Chinese copies. (Genuine Solway traps have square cornered plates, whereas most of the cheap fakes have rounded corners ;) )

If you ask the supplier of the origin of the traps for a guarantee that they are one of the above traps it will save you buying substandard and illegal traps. If they are not of the above 3 specific types then they are not legal for use in the UK.

cheers lads that helps alot :notworthy:

what do you guys think of the

magnum body grips?

two totally different traps that are used in different ways and different situations, i use the fenns (genuine) in holes and tunnels and the 116,s (genuine) in runs thru wire and grass /cover, its best to have a few (or alot )of both types to cover most situations
