Rolfe 2
your right there rolfe no need to turn it into a member bashing thread as some seem to delight in doing healthy debate is what its all about and why shouldnt it be? thats how they work best. as for the ego bashing bit of my post, wasnt aimed at anyone in perticular just a comment made about how this site seems to be becoming. and like you rolfe i to enjoy net making and dont see the point of rushing something you enjoy doing but like i said with yrs spent with the needles you will gain a speed if you want it or not its still there. not wanting to sound like an old granny HAPPY KNITTING ROLFE Yes Moley..........Happy Knitting indeed...........wish i had the time to relax and do more.........but work coming out my ears at the moment. Its been manic here on moles at the present time and i could spend all day every day doing nothing else. Hows it with you are you still getting plenty of mole work? Rolfe. Quote Link to post
fishfish 17
i believe one of the game shows used to have a nett making comp, the fastest was some old dear ,a 3'6" in 12 minutes. it takes me about 2 hours! mind you thats with a cuppa t and a hobnob! Quote Link to post
whin 463
can do one in twenty but prefer 30 mins as ive nowt to prove but i have been makeing them for 25 years and salmon nets lobster pots , eye and hand combinaition like shooting pool which i play well , but dont ask me to strip an engine etc feching no good but make nets jioner etc no prob ,im think alot of people on these channels serously want to travel or go out with guys whove done a bit than just rabbiting and made a bit cion at it , some of use would not last im afraid all the best u learn speed with nets as when your on the river sea you lose nets so you have to be quick to make another one as if fish start running netless and no cion cheers Quote Link to post
jultaylor1972 2
just to shut you all up i can knit a 4ft 18 mesh deep shaped purse net in 20mins plus 5more to ring it and line it. Well, then it must be possible if you can do it It takes me 20 minutes to knit 8 rows and I thought that was fast. Perhaps the lads dad can do what he says after all Quote Link to post

Halfinch 51
you folk shouldnt be so quick to judge people just to shut you all up i can knit a 4ft 18 mesh deep shaped purse net in 20mins plus 5more to ring it and line it. AS WITNESSED AND TIMED BY STU YOUNG ON HERE so perhaps when a young lad says his dad can make a net in 20 mins he meens he can knit the net in 20 mins? edited to add. and no theres nothing wrong with the quality of the nets at the end, its just after 25yrs of making them you do build up a bit of speed I believe you can do as you say mole catcher, no reason to doubt you but i wouldn't say i was being quick to judge someone that starts off saying they are 17 then turns to 12,says they own a tame mink, got 3 different people that don't know each other on the same ip address AND His dad can make a net in 20 mins. I rest my case. Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
halfinch.... by the sounds of it your proberbly right but does it do anyone or the site any good for members to publicly rip a member apart? as has been said look at the state of the dog sections, i run lurchers and dont even bother to go and look at the lurcher section because of all the slagging and bad feeling typed on the threads, its not what i want to se on a forum. and anyway speed is uniportant regarding net making as you and others have allready said. Whin.....after first leaving school i worked on the deep sea beam trawlers so i know what your on about regarding the no nets no coin situation. nothing better than repairing cod ends on a rolling fore deck when its pi$$ing down with rain and your hands are so numb you cant tell if its the braid your cutting or your fingers. and as for making repairs with weed rash on your hands, well thats just the best feeling ever NOT Quote Link to post
whin 463
YE STARTED ON THE TRAWLERS , THEN IN SHORE PROGRESSED TO SMALLER BOATS AND STARTED SALMON DRIFFTING OR POACHING LEARNED TO BE FAST AND DEXTEROUS , I MADE A COUPLE OF HUNDRED PURSE NETS ONE SUMMER AND SOLD THEM ALL FOR DIESEL MONEY FOR GOING TO A FEW OBEIDENCE TRILS WITH LURCHERS ,YE JULES IT IS POSS BUT AT THAT PACE YOU CANT KEEP IT GOING DAY OUT DAY IN LIKE MOST THINGS AHAH , BUT YE IT CAN BE DONE BUT WELL WHEN I MAKE MY OWN THERE MADE A BIT BETTER AND HAVE A PERSONAL STAMP IE TO HAVE PLENTY BAGGING SO IT TAKES A BIT MORE BUT YE YOU CAN MAKE METRE NETS IN 20 MINS WITH HEMP AS IT DOESNT TAKE MUCH TO NOT NOR DOES SPUN NYLON IN FACT IM GOING TO MAKE A FEW THE DAY NEVER YOUSE NETS MUCH BUT WELL THATS LIFE Quote Link to post
